Position Description:

A Wound Care Nurse plays a crucial role in a skilled rehab nursing home by overseeing and coordinating all aspects of wound care for residents. This position requires a highly skilled and knowledgeable individual who can provide comprehensive wound assessment, treatment, and education to promote optimal wound healing and resident well-being. A Wound Care Nurse collaborates with the interdisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, therapists, and other healthcare professionals, to develop and implement effective wound care plans. Additionally, a Wound Care nurse stays up-to-date with the latest advancements in wound care management and ensures compliance with regulatory standards.

Responsibilities of a Wound Care Nurse (RN):

  • Primarily evaluating & caring for Residents' wound needs.
  • Providing wound care services; wound debridement, application & removal of dressings.
  • Performing weekly skin assessments of Residents under their care.
  • Assures, maintains and implements care plans as directed.
  • Assess, monitor & record Residents progress during the healing phase.
  • Responsible for educating Residents on proper care for their wounds.
  • Other nursing duties as assigned by DON

Requirements of a Wound Care Nurse (RN):

  • Current NYS Registered Nurse license required
  • Specialized in wound care preferred
  • Short term/subacute care experience preferred
  • Excellent physical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Ability to perform effectively in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent communication skills
