Salary: $44,484.00 - $57,833.00 AnnuallyLocation : Scottsdale, AZJob Type: Full-TimeJob Number: 101###-####11Department: Social ServicesOpening Date: 12/09/2024Closing Date: 12/23/2024 11:59 PM ArizonaDefinitionDefinition: Under direct supervision from the Group Home Supervisor, this position will develop and implement safe and healthy arts & craft activities for community children residing in the Group Homes. This position will maintain an environment of meaningful engagement in a respectful manner. This position will also support, assist and work in collaboration when necessary with the Group Home team in all other on-site and off-site activities as needed and directed. This job class is treated as FLSA Non-Exempt.Essential Functions: Essential functions may vary among positions and may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills, abilities and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions in this classification. Examples of Tasks1. Arts and Crafts: Researches, plans, and implements the arts & crafts activities component of the program while applying maximum creativity and initiative.
  • Responsible for ordering all supplies needed in a timely manner and maintain a consistent inventory of these supplies to include maintaining a well-kept and organized storage of this inventory.
  • Ensures all arts and crafts projects have clear directions, simple instructions, and/or visual prototypes for a child's understanding.
  • Makes recommendations for Arts and Crafts enhancements to include executing enhancements as directed by division and department leadership.
  • Strives to incorporate O'odham (Pima) and Piipaash (Maricopa) customs, culture and traditions into the program's arts and crafts.
  • Participates in efforts to gauge the children's interests and needs along with planning and implementation methods to meet those needs.
  • Maintains consistency in quality of projects across all recreation sites: the Salt River Group Homes, the Social Services Department building and the Independent Living Center.
2. On-site and On-Community Events: Plans on-site and community-site events as needed.
  • Plans and coordinates events/activities for and completes set-up, decorations, tear-down and clean-up.
  • Assists event participants while they exit transportation vehicles, vans, shuttles, and busses.
  • Greets and welcomes event participants and assists with event sign-up sheets.
  • Ensures meaningful engagement is occurring with all participants during the event to include checking in on them to ensure a quality experience for all.
  • Help with food service as needed.
  • May provide driver services and transportation services as needed.
3. Youth Outings and Trips: Plans off-site events and activities as needed.
  • Adheres to all established safety requirements and helps to ensure safety of youth.
  • Attends all meetings required for each off-site event.
  • Ensures a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful experience for youth.
  • Chaperone, engage, and escort trip participants before, during, and after trip.
  • Attend post-trip meeting and offer feedback and suggestions that will enhance future engagements.
  • May provide driver services and transportation services as needed.
  • Supports the Group Homes with any other assignments as needed.
4. Companionship: Providesprincipal engagement in a kind, patient, and respectful manner.
  • Will deliver quality customer service and meaningful companionship to all youth in a Trauma Informed manner at all times for all participants.
5. Miscellaneous: Performs other job-related duties as assigned to maintain and enhance departmental operation.Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics:
  • Knowledge of the culture, customs, traditions, history, and government of the Salt River Pima- Maricopa Indian Community.
  • Knowledge of a variety of recreational activities to include all youth residing in the Group Homes.
  • Knowledge of procedures for developing and implementing a variety of recreational and related activities and programs for youth through Community participation.
  • Knowledge of Child Development.
  • Knowledge of Trauma Informed Practices.
  • Knowledge of a variety of booster seats, and car seats.
  • Knowledge of how to care for youth in a safe and structured fashion.
  • Skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with SRPMIC co-workers, Community Members, families, other service providers, and the public.
  • Skill operating a variety of standard office equipment including photocopiers, FAX machines, and personal computers to fulfill job requirements.
  • Skill with planning, scheduling, and excellent time management.
  • Skill in communicating effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to utilize the personal computer and related software, including but not limited to, Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain and promote safe practices for the operation of recreational equipment.
  • Ability to develop, plan, organize and implement recreation programs and activities.
  • Ability to perform first aid and CPR techniques.
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours.
  • Ability to drive various SRPMIC vehicles including the 15-passenger van.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education & Experience: Graduation from High School or a GED equivalent is required.
  • For enrolled Community members without a GED, must obtain nationally accredited GED.
  • One (1) year full-time recreation related work with a youth population preferred.
  • An Associate's degree in a Child Development or Recreation related field is preferred.
  • Food Handler, CPR, and First Aid certifications required within 6 months of hire.
  • Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.
  • Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.
Special Requirements
  • May be required to work beyond normal work hours including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must successfully pass an extensive background investigation, including fingerprinting, and have no prior convictions of offenses to children.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License.
