POSITION SUMMARY

The Youth Development Director is responsible for leading, guiding and directing the activities and programs of the Youth Development Department. In addition, every position in the YMCA of Greensboro is responsible for carrying out our promise to strengthen the foundations of community with focus on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Responsibility while upholding our values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

PAY: $18.75- $25/hr.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1) Manages, directs and coordinates the school age youth development programs for assigned location. Ensures high quality programs and establishes new program activities. Expands program within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans.

2) Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules and directs personnel and volunteers as needed. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.

3) Develops, manages and controls budgets related to the position. Ensures program operates within budget and that program fees are collected.

4) Assures compliance with state and local regulations as they relate to program areas. Ensures that YMCA program standards are met and safety procedures are followed.

5) Provides for upkeep of assigned program facilities and equipment and ensures that the physical environment supports healthy living.

6) Recruits members for and serves on the Parent/Board Committee.

7) Maintains appropriate records for the Youth Development Department including, but not limited to enrollment, attendance, budget, collections, wages and expense in conjunction with the Youth Development Coordinator. Compiles program statistics. Monitors and evaluates the effectiveness of and participation in program.

8) Coordinates and implements an annual marketing plan to include an after school brochure, parent handbook and summer camp brochure.

9) Organizes special events for parents. Assists in YMCA fund raising activities.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May manage subordinate supervisors (Youth Development Coordinator, Site Directors) who supervise all other employees in the Youth development Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

QUALIFICATIONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 1) Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

2) LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, governmental regulations and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from members or parents. Ability to communicate effectively with children. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as analysis of variance. REASONING ABILITY Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

3) Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic segments of the community.

4) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

5) Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

6) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderately loud.

7) CPR/AED, First Aid and Blood Borne Pathogen training required upon hire and must remain current throughout employment. Valid CDL may be required.
