Coleman Advocates for Children and Youth is a member-led, multiracial, intergenerational community organization focused on creating a city of hope, justice, and opportunity for children and families in San Francisco. We organize low-income and working-class BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color) youth and families—primarily Black, Latinx, and Pacific Islanders—to build power in their schools, communities, and lives.

Coleman Advocates seeks an experienced and talented S.F. Youth Justice Director who can overview an initiative, multitask, prioritize partnerships, and remain flexible. This position requires a highly skilled, highly organized, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and proactive person.

Job Summary: The SF Youth Justice Initiative is a strategic initiative designed to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline for San Francisco middle-school students by supporting them with wrap-around services in their schools. This program supports students navigating their way out of the juvenile system.

This initiative includes a collaborative partnership with Huckleberry Youth Programs, Young Community Developers (YCD), Legal Services for Children, Disability Rights California, and Youth Law Center.

The role of the Director is to ensure that the overall initiative is meeting or exceeding its programmatic goals while providing direct supervision to the CMAC program at Coleman. The Director must be able to work within a collaborative process, work directly with SFUSD, community groups, students and their families as they successfully navigate middle school.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Track partner initiative progress and data to ensure the goals of the initiative are met
  • Manage communication between stakeholders and partners
  • Join, support, and engage the Coleman Leadership Team
  • Coordinate and facilitate stakeholder meetings
  • Support internal and external task management
  • Oversee initiative goals and responsibilities
  • Hold positive relationships with school sites and administrators
  • Hold regular updates with the Executive Director
  • Supervise, research, support, and lead work supporting the CMAC program
  • Other duties as assigned

Primary Qualifications:

  • Understanding and experience in the non-profit sector
  • Supervisory understanding, and experience in community organizing
  • Ability to take initiative, be assertive, work independently, and lead a group
  • Experience and ease working with people of different classes, races, and backgrounds
  • Demonstrated respect for the culture and leadership of young people and parents
  • Highly organized and a capable multitasker with the ability to meet goals within established timelines
  • Strong time management skills
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Strong oral and written skills, including editing
  • Ability to problem solve and initiate solutions
  • Report directly to the Executive Director
  • Experience using Microsoft Office, Google Suite

Desired Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of supervisory experience
  • Familiarity with non-profit governing structures and resources
  • Database management experience
  • Willingness to roll up your sleeves and adopt a “no task too big or small” attitude
  • Access to a car and a valid driver's license
