Job Order Hourly Rate of Pay: $15.00 (Based on education and/or years of relevant work experience reflected on the application)

Positions will be assigned to the Department of Public Safety - National Guard - Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy (TCA). Employee works collaboratively to assure a safe environment for 16-18 year olds attending the Tarheel ChalleNGe Academy Program. The role functions as a mentor, advisor, counselor, and teacher, communicating program standards and expectations to cadets. The employee identifies factors that could lead to inappropriate behavior and makes immediate corrections. This position involves significant interaction with cadets and serves as the front-line supervisor responsible for all aspects of academy life. Responsibilities include documenting occurrences during shifts and briefing subsequent shifts regarding issues or problems. The employee initiates counseling statements and incident reports as needed to document inappropriate behavior.

  • Experience with teaching, coaching, and mentoring 16-18 year old at-risk youth.
  • Experience observing, assessing, and collecting data related to at-risk youth behavior (e.g., failing to follow instructions, altercations, disrespecting adults or peers).
  • Experience organizing and/or leading groups for training or service projects.

Education requirements include an Associate's degree in human services or a related field from an accredited institution; or a high school diploma or GED with two years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
