POSITION SUMMARY:Under the direction of the Sports Director and in accordance with the Christian mission and purpose of the Great Miami Valley YMCA Association, the Youth Sports Official I is responsible for officiating excellent and safe youth programs for YMCA members and program participants in sports programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Monitors play to oversee the safety of players and ensure the sport and YMCA rules are followed. Ensures the gym(s) are ready for games with physical setting and equipment. Communicates and enforces sports rules effectively while providing leadership during all games according to the YMCA policy. Maintains cleanliness of the gym area. Sets up and tear down all equipment needed for play prior to start up time. Builds relationships with members and program participants. Ensures safety by communicating and enforcing any rules, policies, and guidelines at participants' comprehension level. Ensures safety by checking for hazardous conditions and making sure all safety equipment is properly placed and in proper working condition. Follows all sports program rules, dress code, policies, and guidelines. Creates an atmosphere based on fair play and incorporates it in a demonstrative and professional manner.YMCA LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:Mission Advancement: Accepts and demonstrates the Y's values. QUALIFICATIONS: - Must be at least 14 years of age or older.
- Must have a willingness to complete: Child Abuse Prevention training, Basic Life Support; First Aid; and New Staff Orientation.
- Completion of YMCA program-specific certifications.
- Six months or more of related sports and/or officiating experience preferred.
- Must have reliable transportation.
WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS: - Ability to walk, stand, and sit (including on the floor) for long periods of time.
- Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids.
- Must be able to lift and/or assist children up to 50 pounds in weight.
- Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
- Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.
- Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.
- Assist with implementing rules and regulations of all youth sports programs.
