- Assist Recreation Coordinator with the development of program goals and activities for youth.
- Teach various recreational, educational, social, and team building activities.
- Provide classroom management and instruction to youth.
Documentation
- Prepare lesson plans as required.
- Assist with completion of program reports such as but not limited to: daily attendance, program calendar, meal forms, incident log, etc.
Trainings/Supervision
- Maintain First Aid, Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and Mental Health First Aid certification, and additional required trainings.
- Meet monthly with Recreation Coordinator for supervision and attend staff meetings.
Health and Safety Practices
- Assist with ensuring compliance with OSHA and DOHMH guidelines.
- Assist with ensuring the classroom is maintained in a hygienic condition.
- Assist with food/meal distribution and follow food service guidelines.
Interaction with Parents, Children and Staff
- Act as a liaison with parents.
- Attend trips with youth in the community as approved by supervisor.
- Outreach to parents for youth enrollment/participation in the program.
- Perform other duties as assigned by manager.
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent credentials. •
- A minimum of one year of experience working with youth in a recreational, educational and/or social environment. •
- Experience with or knowledge of best practices in youth development preferred. •
- Experience with or knowledge of whole language philosophy preferred. •
- Clearance through New York State Central Registry (SCR) and New York State Office of Children and Family Services, Justice Center's Staff Exclusion List (SEL) and Division of Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) required. •
- Bilingual language skills in English and Spanish preferred. •
- Strong oral and written communication, time management and organizational skills are necessary. •
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and other standard business technology is required.
