Questions before applying? 785-###-####Summary:The Zoning Administrator/Building Official is a position who oversees and enforces tribal building codes, zoning laws and ordinances/regulations. Their goal is to ensure new construction and renovations maintain a level of quality that keeps PBPN safe and protects the environment. This position will enforce tribal laws/codes and regulations related to new construction and remodel of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings; public nuisances, building permits, zoning, and land use.Minimum Requirements:Driving: Must have a valid Kansas driver's license and be insurable with the Nation's insuranceExperience: Five years of similar or related experience. 3+ years of experience with commercial and residential building code compliance. Must possess International Code Council certification credentials within the first 12 months of hire. Must possess National Fire Protection Association Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner certification within the first 12 months of hire.Education: Two-year college degree or completion of a specialized course of study in Construction, Public Administration, or Sustainability Studies, or related field.Interpersonal Skills: A significant level of trust and diplomacy is required, in addition to normal courtesy and tact. Work involves extensive personal contact with others and/or can be of a personal or sensitive nature. Work may involve motivating or influencing others. Outside contacts become important and fostering sound relationships with other entities (companies and/or individuals) becomes necessary and often requires the ability to influence and/or sell ideas or services to others.Knowledge:
  • Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.
  • Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote effective local, state, or national security operations for the protection of people, data, property, and institutions.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules, and the democratic political process.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and software, including applications and programming. Advanced knowledge of Excel. Knowledge of administrative and office procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and workplace terminology.
  • Knowledge of site layouts, analytical interpretations, and reporting/reading of building codes.
  • Construction and building knowledge including but not limited to environmental compliance, mechanical, plumbing, electrical, framing, etc.
