Job Description :

The major responsibility of this position is performing routine analysis of raw materials, finished products, and process control samples. This involves completing all documentation and data entry associated with the receipt, handling and analysis of all samples and results. It also involves maintaining compliance with SOPs and GLPs for sample handling (receiving, storage & testing), daily housekeeping and routine laboratory/workstation disinfection procedures, equipment performance monitoring, calibrations and trouble-shooting, supply inventory (preparation and stocking of supplies).

Analysts are expected to interpret production schedules to anticipate sample load and adjust accordingly, insuring that adequate time and supplies are available. Analysts are expected to complete all daily sample testing within their allotted shift. Testing includes but is not limited to fat, total solids, pH, viscosity, protein, aerobic plate counts, coliform counts, yeast & mold counts, and antibiotic residue testing. Raw materials samples are pulled at receiving from every truck and submitted for immediate chemical and bacterial analysis. Process control samples are submitted as needed by processors for immediate analysis, as are finished product samples from production. Additional finished product samples are pulled by laboratory analysts to monitor quality and comply with standardized shelf-life testing and retention programs. Further testing requirements include water, wastewater, package analysis, and occasional environmental monitoring and special project testing.

Duties:

  • Pulls, records, and labels finished product samples as required for immediate testing, and various shelf-life evaluations.
  • Verifies product labeling and code dates.
  • Performs all chemical and microbiological testing on all raw, process control, and finished product samples.
  • Performs sensory analysis on finished product (i.e. tasting, smelling).
  • Perform plant audits/checklists.
  • Operates laboratory equipment, performing calibrations as required by SOP and troubleshooting when necessary.
  • Maintains organization and cleanliness within the laboratory.
  • Communicates crucial process control testing and product evaluation results to management as specified by SOPs.
  • Maintains company LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) by performing daily data entry of sample identification and results.
  • Verifies supply inventories, restocks or prepares supplies as needed.
  • Shall perform any other duties as assigned by their supervisor or management
