The Corrections Juvenile Food Production Worker (pay grade level WS-205) has a special entrance rate of $1,280 biweekly.

Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

One year of food service experience in an institutional, hospital, military or commercial food service operation.

SUBSTITUTIONS:

Enrollment in a food service related curriculum at a vocational, trade, or technical institute will substitute for the required experience on a month for month basis.

College credit in food and nutrition, dietetics or institutional management will substitute for the required experience on the basis of one semester hour for one month of experience.

NOTE:

Experience which involved no food handling or food preparation, such as washing dishes or bussing tables, will not be considered as qualifying experience.

NOTE:

Any college hours or degree must be from an accredited college or university.

Job Concepts

Function of Work:

To prepare and cook food; to serve meals; and to supervise student offenders engaged in cleaning activities in a food service operation at a juvenile correctional institution.

Level of Work:

Experienced.

Supervision Received:

General from Juvenile Corrections Food Production Supervisor.

Supervision Exercised:

Direct line over student offenders engaged in cleaning activities.

Location of Work:

Department of Corrections and Public Safety; Juvenile Correctional Institutions.

Job Distinctions:

Differs from Corrections Juvenile Food Production Supervisor in that supervisory responsibility is exercised over a group of student offenders. Corrections Juvenile Food Production Supervisors supervise a group of Corrections Juvenile Food Production Workers.

Examples of Work

Receives menu. Prepares and cooks food.

Supervises student offenders on the serving line, regulating quantity of serving sizes.

Directs student offenders engaged in cleaning the kitchen and dining areas, or in washing dishes, pots, and pans.

Maintains security regulations in the food production areas.

Requisitions, receives, stores and dispenses food supplies; maintains security of storage areas and food supplies.
