Job Summary:

The Deckhand is responsible for assisting in the maintenance and operation for the MJ Verrochi and Flexi float jack up barge, including but not limited to works on assisting with the smooth operation of a sheet pile installation spread. The Deckhand will report directly to the supervisor of this work spread and will also be responsible for marine spread support, tying up ropes, lashing barges, and assisting with the movement of material. This position is vital to the operation and maintenance of our sheet pile installation spread.

Education:

High School Diploma or equivalent

First Aid/CPR

Experience:

1+ years marine experience is preferred

Skills:

Able to communicate clearly and concisely over a radio

Willing and able to learn the challenging tasks of being a safe crew member and deckhand.

Knowledge of the safe and efficient use of tools and equipment such as, power, and non-powered hand tools, tugboats.

Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with management/supervision .

Acts as a signal person for the equipment operators and helps to unload, load and secure equipment and materials .

Responsibilities:

Inspect barges for damage and leaks, which at times requires climbing into confined spaces

Inspecting the lines and rope for any tear

Use lines, wires, ratchets, and stationary winches to build and break tow in all weather conditions

Operate tools and equipment like ratchets, shackles, chain straps and wires/cables

Complete daily and periodic maintenance tasks such as cleaning, painting, chipping, transferring rigging, and vessel maintenance

Report vessel condition information to the mate or pilot, especially any hazardous or unsafe condition of the boat, tow, or any associated equipment, and take action to prevent injuries or accidents

Physical Demands/Working Environment:

Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and on marine vessels in water

Able to safely execute duties in and around heavy equipment/large machinery.

Must be able to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes. The exact weight requirements will be determined by the specific job, but no less than 20 lbs.

Must be physically agile to perform tasks and able to climb ladders, work in extreme temperature environments.

Frequent exposure to noise due to machinery and equipment.

Work in extreme temperatures and conditions.

Able to perform other duties as required

Union Rates:

$25-$45/per hour
