Job Details: A Paraprofessional works with classroom teacher(s) to assist students both inside and outside of the classroom. They may work with individual student(s) and with small or large groups of students. Classifications of Paraprofessionals:
  • Paraprofessional - Preschool
  • Paraprofessional - Kindergarten
  • Paraprofessional - Special Education (MD, ED, IS, Preschool)
  • Paraprofessional - In School Assignment
  • Paraprofessional - Bilingual (English / Spanish)
Workdays: Monday - Friday; 6.75 work hours per day (with a 30-minute unpaid lunch period); 189 workdays per school year; start and end time varies based upon assigned position and school building (number of work days for the 2024/25 school year will be pro-rated to date-of-hire) Rate-of-Pay for 2024/25 School Year: $16.75 per hour (PLUS $1.00 per hour for Preschool; PLUS $1.00 per hour for Bachelor's degree - OR - $2.00 per hour total for Master's degree) Benefits Include:
  • longevity pay - eligible for longevity pay of fifty cents ($ .50) per hour after five (5) years-of-service completed with LCS
  • paid holidays - eligible to receive pay for eight (8) specified holidays that fall within the paraprofessional's work year
  • paid sick days - accrued at rate of one and a quarter (1.25) days per month, total of fifteen (15) days per school year
  • paid personal leave - eligible for up to three (3) days per school year (new employees are eligible after 90 days of employment)
  • additional paid personal leave - may be eligible for additional paid personal leave each school year based upon total sick leave balance
  • medical insurance - eligible to elect single or family medical insurance, which includes: medical, dental, vision, and prescription medications (cost varies per coverage-level elected)
  • life insurance - a term life insurance policy for $30,000 (district covers cost)
  • supplemental and/or dependent life insurance - eligible to elect additional, supplemental life insurance or dependent life insurance (cost varies per coverage-level elected)
  • enrollment into the School Employees Retirement System (SERS)
Required Qualifications:
  • Certification: all paraprofessionals must be a highly-qualified paraprofessional under the provisions of Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) by evidencing one of the following requirements:
  • Associate of Arts Degree or higher (official transcripts required); OR
  • two (2) years of college totaling forty-eight (48) or more semester hours (official transcripts required); OR
  • passing score of 456 or higher on the ParaPro Assessment (copy of results required)
  • Additional information about the ParaPro Assessment: The Educational Testing Service (ETS) administers the ParaPro Assessment, which is the state assessment for paraprofessionals in Ohio and has portability across school districts. The State Board of Education approved a passing score of 456 for the ParaPro Assessment. The ParaPro Assessment is computer-based and available across Ohio at selected Praxis test centers. The paper and pencil version of the test is no longer available.   • Educational Aide Permit: must have or be able to obtain an Educational Aid Permit through the Ohio State Board of Educatoin (SBOE) - cost of $25 paid for by the employee each school year
  • Additional Employment Requirements:
  • all school employees must be able to successfully pass a BCI and FBI criminal background check (prior to employment; cost of $47.25 paid for by the employee)
  • all school employees must be able to successfully pass a drug test (prior to employment; district covers cost)
