Learn more about what makes MDOC a Gold-Level Veteran Friendly Employer.Maintenance Mechanic A10Employees in this job install, maintain, repair, and inspect buildings, mechanical equipment and electrical systems including specialized hospital, laboratory, power plant, and security equipment in CFA Jackson Business Office areas of control utilizing themselves and or a prisoner work crew. Orders materials, and ensures all work meets required codes. This position also serves as the operator for the Jackson Complex drinking water system. Trains and supervises prisoner work crews. Also completes other assigned work orders, preventive maintenance work orders, maintaining grounds areas, project work at other Southern region facilities, and any other projects assigned by the Physical Plant Supervisor. This is a hands-on position, and this person is expected to have the ability to solve problems and perform duties as assigned. This position requires travel to other facilities that may also include overnight stays.Maintenance Mechanic 10 Position DescriptionMaintenance Mechanic 8/E9Employees in this position, install, maintain, repair, and inspect plumbing, mechanical systems, electrical systems, and other facility components. The position is also responsible for installation, repair, and operations of the heating/chilled water systems to include but not limited to, boilers, chillers, pumps, tanks/heat exchangers, and HVAC equipment and systems. The position, orders materials, ensures all work meets required codes and completes other assigned work orders, preventive maintenance work orders, and maintaining grounds areas.Maintenance Mechanic 8/E9EDUCATIONEducational level typically acquired through completion of high school.EXPERIENCEMaintenance Mechanic 8Two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades.Maintenance Mechanic E9Four years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including two years equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic 8.Maintenance Mechanic 10Five years of experience assisting skilled trades workers in the mechanical or electrical trades, including one year equivalent to a Maintenance Mechanic E9.Completion of a recognized program in vocational training for the mechanical or electrical trades may be substituted for two years of experience assisting skilled trades workers.View the job specification at: Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.
