Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for ensuring the daily function of the Laboratory. This includes scheduling and supervising the staff, supply management, review of daily records, and overall day-to-day functions of the QC/Reference Laboratory.
- Supervises, trains, mentors and develops assigned staff.
- Ensures compliance with all quality standards, regulations, policies, procedures, guidelines, and practices.
- Plans, directs, and supervises all testing, processing and production functions of the QC Reference Laboratories.
- Develops, distributes and maintains staff competencies.
- Ensures proficiencies are performed properly, reviewing for accuracy and submitted in the proper time frame.
- Maintains and orders adequate laboratory supplies and reagents for the department.
- Designs, directs and reports clinically relevant project data to management and reports emergencies to management.
- Regulates and monitors productivity of the laboratories and investigates and resolves errors and incident reports.
- Performs instrument validation and monthly quality control on products.
- Maintains a safe and clean working environment and follows all procedures, practices, SOPs, regulations and guidelines.
- Takes hospital orders and accurately process patient samples and performs platelet antibody screening and cross-matching, if applicable.
- Makes recommendations to improve business unit operations.
- Attend meetings as necessary.
- Part of the on-call rotation of weeknights and weekends.
- Participates in continuing education and networking events as required.
- Any related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelors or higher degree in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Bachelor's or higher degree from a program with a major in biology, chemistry, or the physical sciences, and an advanced certificate in clinical laboratory technology, or
- Education and training sufficient to qualify for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist prior to 2009 as specified in NYS-ED Regulation 79-13.4.
Experience:
- If bachelors degree with at least four years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
- If masters degree with at least two years of pertinent clinical laboratory experience subsequent to qualifying of which at least two years have been spent working in a clinical laboratory having a director at the doctoral level.
License & Certification:
- Current active NY State License as a Clinical Lab Technologist
For applicants who will perform this position in New York City or Westchester County, the proposed annual salary is $129,220p/yr. to $137,877p/yr. For applicants who will perform this position outside of New York City or Westchester County, salary will reflect local market rates and be commensurate with the applicants skills, job-related knowledge, and experience.
