Entry-Level Material Handling and Shipping SupportPosition Overview:
- Support routine aspects of material receiving, kitting, warehousing, and shipping.
- Ensure safe, efficient, and organized inbound freight, adhering to Battelle policy and applicable state, federal, and international regulations (e.g., handling hazardous materials, international customs, controlled substances).
Key Responsibilities:
- Work with contracted staff to resolve problems.
- Perform routine unloading, sorting, and packing of incoming materials (e.g., mail, supplies).
- Stock materials in appropriate locations.
- Kit job orders and deliver to the manufacturing floor as directed.
- Conduct routine inventory cycle counts.
- Prepare products for shipping and perform routine shipping tasks to clients.
- Unload, sort, receipt, and process incoming and classified mail.
- Unload, receipt, and issue non-priority air, UPS, motor freight, and local deliveries.
- Identify shipments requiring special storage or handling; process proper documentation and notify appropriate internal staff or departments.
- Separate and identify chemicals for database entry into the Chemical Inventory Tracking System.
- Obtain quotes for services as needed.
- Perform desktop delivery of inbound freight to high-priority areas such as Accounts Payable, Legal, Executive offices, and Finance.
- Conduct daily visual inspections of trucks and equipment, performing minor repairs as needed.
Required Experience and Skills:Experience: 1 year of related experience. Communication: Good oral and written communication skills. Technical Skills: Basic computer skills, including MS Windows and Office. Equipment Operation: Ability to operate pallet jacks and forklifts or the ability to learn within a reasonable time frame. Licensing and Certification:
- Operating knowledge of pallet movers and various sized trucks.
- Certification and licensing for forklift operation.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to continuously bend, lift, and transport up to 100 pounds during the work shift.
- Ability to stand and walk up to 50% of the work shift.
Additional Requirements:
- Ability to work overtime with 24 hours' notice.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearance(s).
- Knowledge and certification of air and ground transportation regulations, hazardous materials, and radioactive safety procedures (may be required).
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Transportation Commercial Driver's License with hazardous material endorsement (may be required).
