Job DetailsJob LocationLong Island City - Long Island City, NYPosition TypeFull TimeSalary Range$45,000.00 - $50,000.00 Salary/yearTravel PercentageUp to 50% Job ShiftDayDescriptionTitle: Outreach WorkerUnit: AdmissionsReports to: Director of Admissions Status: Full Time; Regular; Non-ExemptSalary: $24.73 - $27.47 hourly (approximately $45,000 - $50,000 annually)Location: 5 boroughs, with central Long Island City office.Days/Hours: Full week availability not to exceed 5 works days per week.Position Summary:Responsible for successfully conducting outreach (including disseminating outreach materials) throughout 5 boroughs. Must be willing to work weekends. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Represent The Fortune Society and its core services in a professional manner at a variety of health fairs, community events, farmer's markets, etc.;
  • Collaboratively work with other community based organizations to link participants with SNAP;
  • Must handout printed materials to individuals or to groups as part of presentations;
  • Attend monthly SNAP taskforce meetings or any trainings related to SNAP eligibility;
  • Follow a weekly field schedule from supervisor and provide daily and accurate reports of areas covered;
  • Maintain inventory of outreach materials used in the field and accurately report to supervisor the specifics about materials used and areas covered;
  • Able to identify potentially SNAP eligible individuals or households;
  • Able to effectively organize and present information in group settings both formal and informal;
  • Find/research outside organizations to network with in order to schedule pretentions;
  • Able to work effectively both independently and collaboratively;
  • Provide real time actionable recommendations on how to maximize outcomes for the program; and
  • Perform other duties or tasks as directed.
QualificationsQualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED/HSE with certification from an accredited institution or an associates degree or some college or a bachelors degree or equivalent experience in relevant field of study (e.g. psychology, criminal justice, social work, or liberal arts);
  • At least 3 years of experience working with justice-involved clients;
  • Familiar with NYC housing issues/regulations and able to navigate them to provide quality housing placements for our clients;
  • Demonstrated experience assessing client locating various housing opportunities throughout the five boroughs of NYC, familiar with housing placement for specialized populations, the 2010E process, and identifying appropriate housing in accordance with needs, lease signing and move in process;
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office computer applications, especially Word, Outlook and Excel database;
  • Strong verbal, writing, and negotiating skills, with experience in negotiating program acceptance and rents with landlords a plus;
  • Ability to take initiative, be dependable, resourceful and be able to pay keen attention to detail;
  • Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple priorities at the same time in a time-sensitive manner;
