Salary: $16.92 HourlyLocation : Beaumont, TXJob Type: Full TimeJob Number: 5610Department: Water Utilities DepartmentOpening Date: 08/09/2024Duties and ResponsibilitiesEssential Job Functions: Monitors SCADA system (computer controls); for flow rates, alarms, levels, pumps and other equipment; operates Surface and Ground water plants on any assigned shift; collects samples and performs physical and chemical tests as needed for process control; determines correct chemical dosages and calibrates chemical feed pumps; determines need for distribution water flow changes and operates pumps; accepts chemical deliveries; maintains records about plant operations; performs limited maintenance on pumps and equipment Change out chlorine ton containers. Operates forklift. Other Job Functions: Performs general housekeeping and general maintenance duties; cleans machinery and equipment, floors, etc.; lawn maintenance, canal maintenance, basin cleaning using a fire hose and pump. Climbing ladders and structures. Performs other duties as required. Working ConditionsWorks inside and outside in all kinds of weather; exposed to mechanical, electrical, fume/odor and chemical hazards and toxic gas vapors. Subject to animal, snake and insect bites. Required to be available for any shift and overtime. Minimum Essential QualificationsKnowledge: Knowledge of process operations preferred ; knowledge of general computer skills; knowledge of the location of plant equipment and all other Water Production facilities within six (6) months; knowledge of safety procedures and equipment including the use of breathing apparatus. Skills/Abilities: Ability to perform physical and chemical tests on water samples; ability to perform mathematical calculations using a calculator; ability to use hand tools and perform minor maintenance on equipment; ability to operate pumps, analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, chlorinators, valves, self-contained breathing apparatus, two-way radio, calculator, and telephone; ability to read and understand complex technical manuals; ability to make decisions using guidelines and procedures; ability to interact effectively with other employees and the public. Physical Requirements: Constantly sees and hears; frequently drives, sits, stands, walks, writes by hand, performs data entry and uses a calculator; infrequently lifts, carries, holds, drags, pushes and pulls objects weighing up to 60 lbs., climbs, sorts, squats, stoops, bends, and twist body. Education/Experience: Graduation from high school or equivalent supplemented by experience in the operation and maintenance of pumps and similar machinery. Experience with Excel spreadsheets and SCADA systems preferred. OtherMust possess a valid Class C driver's license with a good driving record. Other state valid Driver's License equivalent to Texas Class C with a good driving record will be considered. Texas state law requires within 30 days of residency, you must possess a valid Texas driver's license. Must obtain a TCEQ Class D Surface Water Operator's License in six months and obtain a TCEQ Class C Surface Water License within 2 years of hire date.
