Abilities First is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.Under the direction of the School Principal, the itinerant Vision Teacher plans and provides for appropriate learning experiences for students with visual impairments in a variety of education settings. The person in this position is responsible for supporting the delivery of instruction for students with visual impairments, such that the students benefit from the general education curriculum to the greatest extent possible when supported with supplement aides, accommodations, and other needed supports.Abilities First is seeking a Part Time Vision Therapist for our school program in Poughkeepsie. We follow a school calendar, as well as a six-week summer program.   • Appropriate New York State Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Demonstrated understanding of the federal, state, and local mandates governing the determination and delivery of special education services.
  • Ability to work effectively with administrators, colleagues, and school based on staff, students, parents and community members
  • Excellent human relations skills and a working knowledge of the English language in written and verbal form
