Job DescriptionThis is an open post inviting qualified candidates to submit an application as an expression of interest in future openings. The Tutor, reporting to the Coordinator of Tutoring and the Dean of Teaching and Learning Support Division, provides individual and small group tutoring supporting material taught in class. The Tutor facilitates learning, guiding students to become independent learners who successfully meet educational goals. Provides one-on-one or small group tutoring in assigned location (i.e. in-person, online, in the classroom); Works with a diverse student population to support learning of key concepts and study strategies; Provides students with positive and constructive feedback; Maintains accurate records of tutoring sessions; Collaborates with faculty, students, and other stakeholders to support student success; Continuously engages in professional growth and development, including staying current in the curricula, leveraging best practices, and reviewing student feedback; May assist in developing materials to support tutoring in the discipline or student skills; Other duties as assigned by Dean/Coordinator.QualificationsRequired qualifications: Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution in communications and/or humanities or related discipline, or at least two semesters of coursework in communications and/or humanities with at least a grade of B; demonstrated subject matter expertise in communications and/or humanities; ability to clearly and effectively explain subject matter to students; and, experience working with individuals with diverse backgrounds.Preferred qualifications: Experience tutoring or teaching in higher education; experience leading online meetings with technology (i.e. WebEx, Zoom, GoToMeeting); and, familiarity with the community college environment.The complete application file should include cover letter, resume, unofficial college transcripts (undergraduate and graduate), and 3 professional references which can be uploaded to the online application.
