global in scope - human in scale.Reports to: Senior Sustainability EngineerSpan of Control: Individual ContributorJOB RESPONSIBILITIES:GLASS RECYCLING RAW MATERIAL SAMPLE PREPARATION (35%)Organize the preparation, cataloging, delivery, and shipment of raw material samples to internal and external partners.Strict adherence to safety procedures and protocols.Prepare raw material samples for shipment to external vendorsActivities include: gathering samples from manufacturing plant contacts, separating samples into small quantities for analysis, performing sample preparation such as particle sizing operations, and organizing shipment of samples to vendors.A successful candidate will be organized and diligent to prevent raw material contamination, while also maintaining sample traceability.Catalog raw material retention samples for future reference.Operate raw material particle sizing equipment such as jar mills, ball mills, and shredding equipment.GLASS RECYCLING RAW MATERIAL TESTING (30%)Perform testing on material samples to determine properties.Safely operate testing equipment to obtain raw material data.Organize, record, and accurately log raw material properties testing data.Perform bulk particle sizing analysis by measuring particle density, particle size distribution, and other raw material properties.Collaborate with the glass and batch labs to expedite sample testingWork with the circular economy engineers to determine the appropriate testing procedures and lab locations that will deliver the fastest and most accurate results.Routine maintenance of instruments, machinery, and laboratory inventory of consumable materialsCONFIGURE, ASSEMBLE AND BUILD PILOT EQUIPMENT TO SUPPORT CIRCULAR ECONOMY EFFORTS (35%)Work with the circular economy engineers to create pilot and prototype test equipment.Safely operate hand and small power tools to build and assemble testing fixturesGather and purchase materials of construction required to build prototype equipmentCollaborate with the site safety team to ensure that all prototypes meet required safety standardsWork with the site facilities and maintenance teams to coordinate necessary utilities required for any prototypesConduct experiments and gather data in prototype equipmentJOB REQUIREMENTS:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associates Degree in EngineeringComfortable working with laboratory equipment and capable of diligently organizing dataTechnical proficiency in electro-mechanical applicationsExperience with hands-on construction of mechanical prototypes including piping and measurement instrumentation of fluids or hot gassesAbility to safely assist the circular economy team during manufacturing plant trialsAbility to quickly learn and understand new technologiesAbility to travel domestically up to 25% of the timePREFERRED EXPERIENCE:Experience in minerals or glass processing.Experience with recycling processes and equipment (i.egrinding, sorting, separation, and bulk material handling)KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:Practices safety-conscious behaviors in all processes and procedures.Self-motivated with the ability and desire to work independently.Team oriented, with high energy and desire to build strong relationships, collaborate and drive results across multi-functional and discipline boundaries in a dynamic, multi-project environment.Ability to organize and prepare data.Resilience and agility to adapt to an ever-changing environment and business.Ability to collaborate, problem-solve and execute in both the R&D and Operations environments.Out of the box thinking to identify new approaches to overcome obstacles.Attention to detail and dedication to documenting and embedding knowledge within the organization.
