Overview:

Houston Marriott Westchase Hotel is looking to hire a an experienced Hotel Maintenance Engineer ll to join our team!

Position Summary: As a Hotel Maintenance Engineer ll, you play a crucial role in performing preventative maintenance, perform basic repairs on all types of equipment, and coordinating with the maintenance staff in diagnosing potential problems that ensures an attractive and well-maintained hotel.

This individual is a proactive solution seeker, leading by example, and continuously encourages and engages team members both in the FOH and BOH. The successful candidate has a can-do attitude and will jump in where assistance is needed.

We are a large high-rise hotel with a combined footprint including parking of 16 acres, and as the General Building Maintenance Engineer you will be expected to survey and inspect the hotel and property daily, while maintain guestrooms and back of house areas in good repair by performing various tasks related to a variety of trades, including but not limited to carpentry, plumbing, electrical, air conditioning, painting, wall covering and masonry.

Scheduling: This is a Full-Time position that requires the availability to rotate between AM and PM shifts, various days of the week - schedules will change weekly and will include a combination of weekdays and weekends based on business demands.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Immediately repair or report mechanical, structural or safety issues in and around the hotel.
  • Address guests issues and requests with a sense of urgency.
  • Communicate with the Engineering team as well as other departments on room status updates.
  • Inspect guestrooms, public spaces and back of the house areas for general maintenance, cleanliness, safety and needed repairs, replacement, and/or touch ups daily.
  • Perform basic plumbing functions such as repairing faucet, toilet, shower leaks and replacing sink hardware.
  • Performs route repairs and ensures proper operation of all hotel equipment, kitchen equipment, laundry equipment, boilers, plumbing, pool equipment and HVACs.
  • Complete ongoing required training and development to maximize potential.
  • Follow company procedures and follow required best practices and exceed brand standards.

The hotel operates seven (7) days a week and twenty-four (24) hours per day. All employees, both management and hourly, should be aware of this fact and that at times it may be necessary to move employees from their accustomed shift as business demands, and assist in other departments and/or job functions as needed and requested by management.

Qualifications:
  • Must have at least (1) years experience working in building maintenance; Hotel or Hospital environment preferred.
  • Experience in all maintenance trades, including electrical, plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, and painting.
  • Experience and safety knowledge using basic hand and power tolls.
  • Ability to speak, hear, read, and comprehend instructions, both written and oral, in fluent English with ability to convey information and ideas clearly.
  • Able to be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving problems as they arise.
  • Able to work well in stressful high-pressure situations with a sense of urgency when needed.
  • Able to perform extensive standing, walking, climbing, and lifting, up to duration of shift.
  • Able to extend arms; with frequent reaching, twisting, pulling, bending, squatting, and stooping.
  • May work in dirty, dusty, or uncomfortable surroundings.
  • Must be able to work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment and machinery; to work from lifts, ladders, and scaffolding; to manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert 70 lbs.
  • Able to climb ladders up to 30 feet high and reach in all directions, often overhead.
  • Able to move, lift, carry, and place objects weighing up to 50 lbs. and heavier lifting or movement tasks with assistance; able to push, pull without assistance up to 200 lbs.
