Mass General Brigham's Investment Office manages more than $20 billion for MGB, invested primarily via partnerships with third party investment management firms. Strategies in the portfolio include private equity, venture capital, long-only equities, long/short equities, and real assets investments. The Investment Office strives to be nimble in its pursuit of investment opportunities to generate excellent long-term risk adjusted returns to support MGB's healthcare mission. MGB's investment pools include both ERISA and non-ERISA assets that are subject to multiple layers of financial compliance and regulatory frameworks.

MGB's Office of the General Counsel (OGC) seeks to hire an attorney to be the lead attorney for the Investment Office and advise the investment team on all legal and compliance matters. The position will involve significant responsibility for reviewing and negotiating legal agreements with investment managers across the strategies noted above. Additional responsibilities will include managing legal workflows, as well as designing and overseeing compliance practices in the Investment Office. This new position within OGC will require collaboration with internal parties, including Investment Office staff, OGC colleagues and other MGB departments, and external counterparties, including investment managers and outside counsel.

Minimum Requirements
  • J.D. from an accredited law school, licensed and in good standing before the Massachusetts bar
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience in a law firm or in-house legal department with extensive experience reviewing both public and private investment fund documents
  • Excellent academic credentials and drafting, communication, and analytical skills with a creative approach to problem solving
  • Meticulous attention to detail
  • Professionalism, integrity, and ability to maintain confidences while working with confidential information
  • Positive, energetic attitude with demonstrated commitment to operating in a team environment and working collaboratively on cross-functional teams
  • Intrinsically motivated with ability to work independently; strong organizational, project and time management skills, with capacity to manage multiple projects and prioritize competing priorities
  • Excellent relationship management skills; balances partnership-oriented style with strong legal representation of clients' interests
