Job DetailsJob Location Saint Louis - Saint Louis, MO Position Type Full Time Education Level 4 Year Degree Salary Range $87,525.00 - $109,408.00 Salary Description The New Roots for Restoration Biology Integration Institute ( an NSF-funded initiative based at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in St. Louis, Missouri, is seeking a project manager to help support Institute-wide research and education activities. The successful candidate will help coordinate organization, communication, and reporting needs of the Institute, which includes 100+ members from nine Institutions spread across four states. The successful candidate will enhance integration among biological sub-disciplines (plant organismal biology, community ecology, and the soil ecosphere) represented within the Institute by supporting advancement of core ongoing research projects, expertise cores, and other emerging initiatives towards scientific products and their translation for use beyond the Institute. Under the guidance of the director, the project manager will support Institute activities aimed at recruiting, training, and advancing the next generation of diverse scientists who will lead science that advances restoration in nature and in agriculture. This is a full-time (40 hours/week) position that can be in-person, hybrid, or fully remote. There is some travel involved in the position, primarily to annual in-person meetings and to the National Science Foundation. If remote, the candidate will be expected to travel to St. Louis 1-2x/year. Review of applications will begin September 16 and will continue until a suitable candidate is identified. Responsibilities:
  • Together with the Executive Team, review and revise strategic plan, governance plan, and broadening participation plan.
  • Understand and be deeply familiar with all Institute research projects, expertise cores, and education, diversity, training, and outreach activities.
  • Attend regular meetings of research teams, track progress milestones, identify research gaps and help figure out how to fill them, highlight project areas/activities/themes where integration is working well as well as opportunities for enhanced integration across sub-disciplines.
  • Identify approaches/opportunities for expanding integration, including possible funding sources and contributing to proposal drafting led by Institute scientists.
  • In order to efficiently advance the goals of the Institute, set and maintain meeting calendars, including project updates and seminars, Education, Training, Diversifying, and Outreach (EDTO) activities, monthly executive team meetings, all institute meetings, annual retreats, Advisory Board Meeting, and Evaluation Team Meeting.
    • Track other New Roots meetings that arise
  • Maintain primary roster, develop and disseminate agenda for meetings, coordinate meeting notes in collaboration with administrative assistant
  • Support EDTO activities as needed (e.g., data collection, survey dissemination, high school intern recruitment, REU coordination, etc.)
  • Draft weekly newsletter
  • Manage website, twitter/X feed
  • Monitor and maintain YouTube channel and seminar folder
  • Lead development, management, and dissemination of policies and resources developed by the Institute
  • Develop and disseminate material for the public, as well as for stakeholder communities that describes the work of the Institute
  • Present general information for a public audience about New Roots BII via Zoom or in person upon request
  • Draft annual report in collaboration with with project leaders, coordinate submission
  • Track Institute productivity (presentations, publications, students trained/engaged, etc.)
  • Help prepare for the annual NSF program meeting and reverse site visits
  • Develop a google scholar website to track publications from the Institute
  • Serve as the New Roots for Restoration Liaison to cross-BII research coordination network activities.
  • Some candidates may have interest/capacity to contribute to advancing aspects of the science of the Institute through data collection, analysis, and/or writing.

Required knowledge, skills, and abilities:
  • Project management
  • Training and experience with one or more of the biological sub disciplines represented within the Institute (agro-ecology, agronomy, biology, botany, ecology, evolutionary biology, microbial ecology, plant organismal systems, population and community ecology, restoration ecology, soil science, soil ecosphere)
  • Understanding of and commitment to the mission of the NRR-BII: to build the scientific foundation and diverse workforce required to advance long-lived, resilient systems in nature and agriculture.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Commitment to a culture that celebrates and supports diverse scientists and trainees from a range of different career stages (high school - full professors/senior scientists)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills

QualificationsQualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of experience or Master's degree required (Ph.D. preferred) in agronomy, biology, botany, ecology, genetics, microbiology, plant science, soil science or related discipline
  • Experience in Project Management required (Project Management Certification preferred)
