Sustaining others is what sustains us.The RoleThe Executive Director partners closely with the Enso Village Board of Directors to provide vision, strategic direction, operational management, fiscal oversight, and leadership in service of the interests of the residents as well as the long-term wellbeing and sustainability of Enso Village. The Executive Director has primary accountability for Enso Village resident and employee satisfaction, operational excellence, regulatory compliance, organizational structure and staff recruitment, identification, selection, retention and development, and business development/growth.The Executive Director is accountable to the Enso Village Board. However, until stabilized occupancy is achieved, the Executive Director will be an employee of TKC and managed and evaluated by the President and Chief Executive Officer of TKC with regular and continuing input from the Enso Village Board. The Executive Director will be assigned exclusively to Enso Village. On an ongoing basis, the Executive Director will work cooperatively with the senior staff of TKC and other Kendal Communities.The Executive Director represents Enso Village in its work with nonprofit, government, local communities, and social enterprises to advance the organization's mission. With the support of and in collaboration with Enso Village's Spiritual Director, the Executive Director will be a champion of diverse culture that reflects Zen practice and Quaker values along with the diverse spiritual or secular values of all residents.Position Responsibilities:

  • The Executive Director, in partnership with the Enso Village Board, develops and oversees the implementation of long-term strategies, short-term goals, and programs designed to support Enso Village's mission, Guiding Principles, and commitment to environmental resilience and sustainability. Creates and implements programs and services to champion diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and focus on welcoming people with diverse cultural backgrounds, identities, and abilities.
  • The Executive Director presents Enso Village as a senior living community of choice to the residents and their families, the surrounding community, and within the senior living field. Promotes a positive image of Enso Village both locally and nationally; develops relationships with civic leaders; the founding organizations (ZISL and TKC); professional associations, other Kendal entities, their staffs and boards; and families and friends of residents.
  • The Executive Director provides inspiring direction, mentorship, and leadership to management and staff. Designs, builds, and retains high-performing teams. Promotes teamwork and effective communication across all departments and staff levels; encourages participation in decision-making; develops a work culture focused on service excellence, compliance, and staff accountability; encourages professional development and continuous learning for all staff.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of sound, fiscally responsible policies, procedures, programs, and activities. The Executive Director achieves the financial and resident occupancy goals set forth by the Enso Village Board by ensuring the efficient and cost-effective use of all resources, financial and human, according to the Guiding Principles and the policies of the Enso Village Board. Ensures that the community consistently maintains high standards of operational performance and achieves and maintains accreditation and regulatory compliance.
  • Leads the team to ensure key metrics and optimized processes are in place to ensure a smooth functioning, efficient operation that meets or exceeds goals and delivers timely and effective resolution of concerns from residents, families, and/or staff.
  • Monitors the changing landscape of aging services and proactively envisions mission-aligned strategic alternatives for consideration by the Enso Village Board of Directors. Identifies actual and anticipated service requirements by leading the community in strategic planning, helping to create the circumstances in which it can succeed in its fields of service.
  • Supports person-centered care by promoting the concepts of choice, purpose, and meaning in the life of each resident and by keeping the resident at the center of all care-planning and decision-making.
  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge; keeps abreast of developments in the nature, techniques, and technology of services for the aging and of the management of service and senior living organizations. Works to develop the community using best practices of current gerontology. Actively leads the community in identifying, planning for, and acting on opportunities for synergies across the full range of health and wellness services.
  • Complies, and ensures Enso Village's compliance, with all CMS (Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services), OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration), and the federal and state department of health requirements to ensure resident and staff safety; Conforms with the requirements of the compliance program by understanding and adhering to Enso Village's Compliance Program and Policies as they appear in the Code of Conduct and other compliance policies. Annually acknowledges review of the Code of Conduct by signature and annually attends corporate compliance education. Adheres to the policies and procedures covering Privacy and Security in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ensures that the Enso Village Guiding Principles are understood by residents and staff and reflected in the life of the Community.
  • Develops and maintains productive, cooperative relationships and communication with the staff, residents, families, Enso Village Board, founding organizations (ZISL and TKC), vendors, and greater community.
  • Contributes to the Enso Village Board's effectiveness through an open, transparent, thoughtful, dynamic relationship; identifying short-term and long-term opportunities and issues to be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to the Enso Village Board's deliberations, suggesting options and recommending courses of action, especially where professional considerations are involved; implementing decisions of the Enso Village Board; participating in the recruitment of candidates for Enso Village Board membership and Board education.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Position Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree which meets the minimum state licensure requirements is required. A bachelor's or advanced degree in health administration or business administration is preferred.
  • Must possess an active, unencumbered RCFE license issued by the state of California or be able to obtain one prior to the start date of this position.
  • Demonstrated administrative competence and/or supervisory experience in senior living.
  • Working knowledge of reimbursement regulations and nursing practices and procedures.
  • Working knowledge of laws, regulations, and guidelines pertaining to long-term care administration.
  • Proficiency or ability to become proficient in the utilization of an electronic medical record system.

  • Normal office environment; frequent meetings; some travel; involvement in outside activities; the physical challenges associated with numerous relationships, strategic and programmatic leadership, deadlines, and demanding schedules (including varying days and hours).
  • Exposure to blood/body fluids (bloodborne pathogens), infections, loud, unpleasant noises, and unpleasant odors.
  • Exposure to chemicals such as disinfectants, cleansers, soap, etc.
  • Possible verbal abuse, stress, and physical injury from residents or others.
Compensation And Benefits:TKC is committed to equal pay and transparency. The annual base salary for this position falls between a range of $250,000 to $325,000 and is commensurate with experience. This base salary is provided as a general guideline; compensation decisions are dependent on a variety of factors, including candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, external non-profit market data, and business considerations.TKC provides team members with a supportive and inclusive work environment focused on health and well-being.
