GENERAL SUMMARY The Prep Cook plays a crucial role in supporting kitchen operations by preparing food and ensuring a smooth setup for success. Reporting to the Program Chef and Lead Line Cook, the Prep Cook is responsible for completing assigned prep duties, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen and dining hall, and adhering to food handling procedures. This role requires punctuality, adherence to directions, and a keen interest in culinary arts. KEY RESPONSABILITIES
  • Assist the Lead Line Cook and Program Chef in preparing food for service.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in knife skills, proper handwashing, and hygiene.
  • Ensure accurate food storage and handling procedures are followed.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of the prep area, kitchen, and dining hall.
  • Show strong communication skills and familiarity with general kitchen equipment.
  • Stand for extended periods as required.
Essential Tasks
  • Assist the Program Chef by chopping vegetables, washing food items, and ensuring equipment and appliances are clean and ready for use.
  • Help wash dishes and always maintain a clean and hygienic work environment.
  • Prepare salads, salad dressings, and sauces according to recipes.
  • Gather food ingredients from refrigerators and freezers as required by the Program Chef.
  • Ensure food is properly stored when not in use.
  • Work with the Chef to prepare ingredients ahead of schedule.
  • Learn and apply cooking methods and techniques essential for efficient kitchen operations.
Requirements Education : High school diploma or equivalent Experience : 1 year kitchen experience preferred Confidentiality : Works with confidential information - account numbers Mental/Visual Demands : Flow of work requires normal mental and visual capabilities. Physical Demand : The employee is required to handle, feel and/or reach with hands and arms, squatting, bending, and constantly moving on a regular basis. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working Conditions : Working in different weather conditions outside is to be expected. Must be willing to occasionally work non-standard work schedule including nights, weekends, and other unusual hours due to business needs.
