TITLE: Plumber (Leadman)QUALIFICATIONS:
High School diploma or GED, trade school or apprentice program in plumbing installations and maintenance in pipefitting.Five years of progressive experience in the repair, replacement, or construction of piping systems; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Knowledge of methods and skills in the use of plumbing equipment, materials and tools.Valid NC State Level I Plumbing License.Valid NC LPP Operator's certification.Valid NC Class C Well Certification is preferred but not requiredREPORTS TO:Director of Facility Support OperationsSUPERVISES:Plumbing Division EmployeesJOB GOAL:To help maintain the physical plants in a condition of operating excellence so that full educational use can be made of them at all times.PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Follows all rules and procedures as required by the Maintenance Department and Carteret County Public Schools.Assumes responsibility for the safe and efficient operating conditions of water supply equipment, plumbing fixtures, drain/water systems, and other piping systems for heating or hot water through the practice of recognized maintenance, repair, and construction methods of the trade.Maintains and repairs well water service, treatment and distribution and irrigation systems.Services, repairs and installs plumbing fixtures and related food service equipment.Maintains and repairs waste piping of treatment or disposal systems.Services, repairs and installs piping to hot water/steam heating and refrigeration systems.Analyzes defects or malfunctions in the plumbing systems; eliminates leaks by repacking valves or replacing faulty fittings or sections in lines; replace worn parts and performs similar duties necessary to correct the problem.Reviews project work for maintenance and orders materials, contacts customer (School Administrators), and schedules work with principal.Estimates costs of plumbing repair projects as to labor, materials and related costs.Provides guidance and technical assistance to others. Gives clear and concise instructions.Generates and completes assigned work orders.Completes all data where applicable for closing work orders.Checks materials and supplies to ensure sufficient amounts are on hand.Meets all schedules and deadlines in a timely fashion.Willing to be on-call in case of emergency.Uses and cares for the tools of the trade; troubleshoots plumbing and related mechanical systems, equipment and components; reads and performs work from blueprints, schematic diagrams and sketches.Examines facilities on a regular basis for the purpose of preventative maintenance.Follows written and verbal instructions and provides prompt feedback as requested.Instructs custodians and other maintenance workers on proper methods of procedure in plumbing work.Evaluates plumber helper at least once annually.Performs other such duties as required and assigned by superiors.The above statements describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job. - Demonstrate considerable knowledge and skill in the use of a variety of tools, materials and equipment used in the performance of plumbing work.
- Demonstrate considerable knowledge of the methods and techniques used in trade.
- Ability to read and work from plans, blueprints and sketches.
- Ability to operate a motor vehicle, including the ability to maintain a valid North Carolina driver's license.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and plan and organize work.
- Demonstrate functional knowledge of the applicable building codes and specifications.
- Demonstrate functional knowledge of the safety precautions of the plumbing trade.
- Ability to work in various inside and outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, job hazards and atmospheric conditions.
- Safely work in situations of exposure to blood borne pathogens which may require specialized personal protective equipment.
- Physical ability and dexterity to perform duties and responsibilities of the job.
- Physical ability to perform manual tasks such as lifting, carrying pushing or pulling weights up to at least 75 pounds, climb ladders and scaffolding, work in building crawl spaces, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, crouch and any other skill or attribute needed to perform the position.
