Job DescriptionThe New Student and Transition Programs (NSTP) office supports first-year and transfer students and their families as they transition into the IC community. Summer New Student Programs Assistants (NSPAs) play a crucial role within NSTP, working alongside professional staff members to assist with the development, coordination, and implementation of inclusive services and programs for Fall Orientation. This is a great opportunity for detail-oriented students interested in working with people and events. NSPAs gain invaluable transferable skills in the areas of planning, organization, marketing and promotions, customer service, and program development. Ongoing training and support are provided to NSPAs through training, staff meetings, and supervision. Interested applicants must submit all application materials (a professional resume, a cover letter, and contact for two professional references) by Monday, March 11. Responsibilities
- Assist with the planning, promotion, and implementation of comprehensive, DEIB-centered Fall Orientation programs for an incoming class of 1300+ new students from various backgrounds and identities. Serve on multiple orientation planning project teams based on need.
- Assist with the daily operations of the NSTP office, including answering emails and phone calls, creating files and forms, maintaining databases, greeting walk-in guests, and other office duties. Provide office coverage during all OL training and Fall Orientation events.
- Help develop marketing materials to promote NSTP services, resources, and events to include posters, LCD screen slides, social media graphics, etc. Contribute to social media content, campaigns, and strategy.
- Develop and demonstrate multicultural awareness and contribute to cultivating an inclusive, diverse, and respectful college community and orientation events.
- Provide feedback and brainstorm ideas with the NSTP team regarding our events, services, and resources.
- Serve as a reliable, professional, confident, and approachable resource for incoming students and their families via phone, email, etc.
Job Requirements All candidates must be:
- In good judicial and academic standing (with a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 maintained through the spring semester)
- Full-time enrollment as an undergraduate or graduate student at the time of hire through Fall 2024
Employment Details
- NSPAs work 28 hours per week from May 28 - August 25, 2024, with the possibility to remain in this role during the academic year, depending on NSTP staffing needs.
- NSPAs are paid at an hourly rate of $15.
- This position will include free on-campus housing in a summer residential hall (with the possibility of having a roommate, depending on summer housing needs and available spaces).
- Additionally, there will be $450.00 deposited onto NSPAs' ID Express card for purchasing meals on campus. ID Express is a debit account accessed with an Ithaca College ID card, providing a convenient, easy, and safe way to make purchases on campus.
- Time off during May-July must be approved by your supervisor, ideally at least two weeks in advance. August is considered a 'vacation blackout' period due to the high volume of work surrounding student training and orientation.

- Ability to manage high volumes of work in a fast-paced environment
