Required Qualifications: As per Civil Service Standards and Specifications. Must have a current Security Guard Photo ID issued by the New York State Department of State to qualify. Candidate must meet physical/ medical requirements and substance abuse screening as determined by theDirector of Health Services of the department of Civil Service. A thorough character investigation will be made by University Police. Must have, keep and maintain the appropriate valid NYS Driver's License; have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations. (***Out-of-State Applicants, see Special Notes ). Brief Description of Duties: To afford safety and security with duties to include the following:
- Patrol buildings and facilities to identify, report and address safety and security concerns.
- Greet visitors and staff while verifying credentials.
- Respond to facility calls for service, events and emergencies.
- Respond to calls for assistance with difficult clients and visitors.
- Assist clients with disabilities, visitors or employees in all possible ways including escorting them through area.
- As directed, assists police and firefighters at the scene of accidents.
- Prepare written reports of shift activities including actions taken to report or resolve incidents or problems.
- Prevent theft of state or personal property by means of presence and witness.
- May operate a motor vehicle to transport people and cargo to emergency situations.
- Administer first aid to sick or injured persons.
- Other duties as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
Special Notes: These are temporary, part-time, hourly positions, shift and pass days varied. Night and weekend work may be required. FLSA Nonexempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously. Mandatory rehire roster candidates have preference. Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such are required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.
