Job Description Job Description SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The General Surgery PA in this role will provide direct care, counseling, and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory, inpatient, operative, and/or procedural setting along with existing advanced practice providers and attending physicians. Duties include but not limited to; • Performs complete histories and physical examinations • Assist in OR scheduling, clinical and administrative duties and responsibilities • Participates in daily rounds to observe and record pertinent progress of patients, updating and summarization charts, writing orders and progress notes and notifying the attending surgeon in charge of the patient's condition/status, when appropriate • Develops an assessment and therapeutic plan and renders ongoing patient care based on this plan in an in-patient and outpatient setting as per protocol • Orders and interprets appropriate lab tests, radiology, diagnostic procedures and writes prescriptions according to protocols established by surgery service • Performs specific procedures, including but not necessarily limited to drawing blood specimens for testing, blood counts, urinalysis, smears, • Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes, procedure notes, operative notes and discharge summaries • Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population based on credentialing • The PA may first assist in the operating room or procedural areas, training will be offered if needed • Practices cost effective medicine in an efficient manner, maximizing available resources • Follows all designated prescriptive practices and monitoring requirements with the designated supervising physician and administrative report • Participates in departmental meetings, in-services and professional trainings Hours: 6:00am-6:30pm, 3 days / week Minimum Qualifications 1. Current New York State registration as a Physician Assistant; or 2.
