Role Purpose Statement

The Buyer position is responsible for managing the inventory, ordering, receiving, storage and issuance of all food, beverage, and equipment products.

Main Accountabilities
  • Manage Materials Internal Delivery System (IDS).
  • Responsible for all Company and customer owned merchandise received and the subsequent handling of said product until it is issued to production. Also responsible for any unused product returned to storage.
  • Control Food Cost Variance and continually compare actual to billed costs.
  • Determine Par levels and order quantities based on airline specs, menus and vendor lead times.
  • Manage personnel to maintain proper inventory, ordering, receiving, storage and requisition processes.
  • Track product usage and yields in relation to ordering requirements.
  • Coordinate and participate in month end inventory and reporting processes.
  • Participate in planning and coordination of special functions and presentations.
  • Identify and onboard vendors who meet the required LSG Sky Chefs qualifications.
  • Ensure that vendor performance issues are addressed quickly and should problems continue, provide analysis of alternatives, making changes when appropriate.
  • Work with Program Management departments to ensure proper items are sourced, and what is being sourced is within the specifications and price parameters of the customer.
  • Proactively support other departments and functions as the Procurement specialist.
  • Maintain compliance with standards of FDA, OSHA, USDA, HACCP and all other regulatory agencies.
Knowledge, Skills and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent
  • Five years directly related operational experience.
  • Thorough understanding of perpetual inventory systems.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing or just in time principles.
  • Proven success in improving work processes, leading change and role models positive behaviors as well as change agent skills in a complex and fast paced environment.
  • Established ability to identify the vision and produces goals with realistic plans to achieve them.
  • Ability to interact with employees, customers and vendors at all levels.
  • United Airline and International Carrier catering experience a plus.
  • Proficient in computer skills including SAP.
  • Excellent analytical and conceptual skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary to provide leadership
