Job Summary JOB SUMMARY: The Systems Engineer is a member of the IT Engineering team and responsible for providing expert judgment and analysis for the design, development, configuration and implementation of computer technical products and systems. Recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of production and/or procedures. Performs a variety of tasks including installing new software releases and system upgrades. Evaluates and installs patches and resolves software related problems. Performs system backups and recovery. Maintains data files and monitors system configuration to ensure data integrity. Provides system monitoring and capacity planning, operational and performance analysis, and system tuning. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. With guidance from other engineers, install VMware ESXi hypervisor(s), supporting features and functions including but not limited to: Physical to virtual, virtual to virtual, vMotion, svMotion, upgrades and/or fixes which support ongoing operation of major Intel hardware platforms. 2. With guidance from other engineers install MS Windows Server, and Linux (i.e., Redhat) operating system and/or program product upgrades and/or fixes which support ongoing operation of major hardware platforms. 3. With guidance from senior engineers, design and develop highly complex, integrated solutions to meet business requirements or enhance performance leveraging technology awareness, research, and system integration to meet company and department requirements. 4. Analyze current Windows Server/LINUX/VMware systems software, proposed modifications and new software to determine potential impact on application/system performance. 5. Analyze and recommend use of new platform system software to improve system performance or to support new functionality. 6. Identify and document standards for deployment and use and operation of platform systems software. 7. Assist senior Engineers with deploying storage solution enabling the Intel platforms: this may include SAN and local storage solutions. 8. Break-fix support: performs break-fix operations to resolve technical issues in the Windows/LINUX/VMware environment. Minimum Qualifications MINIMUM EDUCATION • Bachelor's degree in computer systems, business, or related field MINIMUM EXPERIENCE: • Two (2) years relevant experience in Information Technology with knowledge of Windows platforms, software products knowledge and Threshold management. • Two (2) years relevant experience in Information Technology with working knowledge of years relevant experience in Information Technology with working knowledge of VMware platforms, high availability & disaster recovery technologies. • In lieu of degree, a combination of relevant education and experience equivalent to five (5) years relevant Information Technology experience. PREFERENCES: Advanced knowledge of the following systems and servers: • Citrix XenApp • UNIX computer operating system • LINUX (CentOS, RedHat, Ubuntu) • VMware ESXi hypervisors • VMware NSX-T • Database servers such as Intersystem's Cache/Iris and MS-SQL • Networking (TCP/IP) software and hardware • Intel computer hardware maintenance • UNIX shells • General programming experience in one or more languages.
