Salary : $55,290.96 - $69,473.52 AnnuallyLocation : Pueblo, COJob Type: Full-Time (Classified)Job Number: 2409-5142Department: Public WorksOpening Date: 09/19/2024Closing Date: 10/10/2024 11:59 PM MountainDESCRIPTIVE STATEMENT: The Plumber is an FLSA non-exempt position that is under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Superintendent. The Plumber performs maintenance and repair work on plumbing components and related equipment in connection with servicing, repairs, construction, assembly and installation of and on machinery, structures and equipment, and performs related work on air conditioning and heating systems as required. This position may oversee temporary employees or outside contractors.This job description is an overview and is intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed. It is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all the functions and tasks required of the position. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: EESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs general servicing, installation, repair and maintenance work on structures, fixtures, facilities and equipment such as sanitary systems, hot and cold-water supply, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems
  • Designs and installs water and DWV lines in new construction, or major remodels
  • Maintains and/or repairs all existing plumbing systems in the City inventory, to include potable water systems, sanitary systems, and hydronic heat systems
  • Pulls necessary permits from the Regional Building Department and works in cooperation with the inspectors during construction
  • Is conversant in the required codes IPC (International Plumbing Code) and UPC and maintains contact with Regional Building for changes in the IPC and UPC code
IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS:
  • May perform the duties of similar classifications of an equal or lower pay grade
  • May be required to assist in carpentry, heating/air conditioning, and other trades/positions
  • Plumber will act as signatory authority for certification of required training for promotion advancements within this classification and other trade classifications (Master Plumber only)
  • Plumber will provide training and mentoring to lower paygrades and other trades/positions
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:This position requires moderate to heavy physical work which must be performed with or without accommodations, including:
  • Ability to lift, carry, push and/or pull objects up to 50 pounds; will occasionally lift loads of 75 lbs or more as required
  • Considerable walking and standing, as well as other activities requiring a full range of body movement including bending, kneeling, leaning, sitting, stooping, crouching, pushing, pulling, and climbing
  • Frequent hand/foot/eye coordination for operation of tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Far and near visual acuity to read manuals, record data, monitor/observe instruments and gauges, and to safely operate equipment and adequately perform maintenance operations
  • Ability to hear verbal instructions and warning signals and for troubleshooting
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES: This position requires:
  • Knowledge of materials, tools, and supplies used in plumbing work and the maintenance thereof, specifically the use of sewer cleaning machinery, the installation of DWV in cast iron and PVC, the installation of water lines in copper, PEX, and PVC
  • Knowledge of trades including plumbing, heating/air conditioning, and mechanical skills
  • Knowledge and techniques in cleaning sanitary sewer lines, boiler installation, and repair
  • Ability to read blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to display good judgment
  • Ability to must be able to work successfully with and provide good customer service to supervisors, other City employees, the public, and other agencies and organizations
  • Ability to perform all the job duties in a safe manner
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: In addition to the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above, this position requires the following:
  • A High School diploma, G.E.D or higher
  • Four (4) years successful experience in residential and commercial related plumbing work
  • A valid State of Colorado Plumber License
  • A valid driver's license at the time of application, and a valid Colorado driver's license within 30 days of employment
    • License restrictions that may hinder your ability to drive on City business, such as an interlock, will be cause for disqualification
    • During the course of employment, a valid license must be maintained, and the employee must notify the City immediately upon changes to the status of their license
SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: This position involves indoor and outdoor work with exposure to all weather conditions, noise, fumes, dust, and chemicals. The work may also be performed in confined spaces, around water, electrical currents, traffic, and other hazardous conditions. Trench work is sometimes required. Must be willing to work on an on-call basis and be prepared to work in emergency situations. All required licenses and certifications must be maintained throughout the term of employment. Failure to obtain or maintain licenses and certifications may result in demotion or termination. Due to Federal and State Criminal Justice System access requirements, classifications that access and maintain criminal justice information may also be required, as a condition of employment, to not have been convicted of and/or have pending charges of a felony or misdemeanor crime that would deny or otherwise restrict access to criminal justice information.
