The Medical Science Liaison is responsible for engaging and educating healthcare professionals and thought leaders, about the clinical application, utility, and impact of Cepheid's in vitro diagnostic products, through fair and balanced scientific exchange. The MSL will also provide expertise and insights to internal teams about unmet clinical needs and strategies for generating evidence to further advance product use to improve patient care.
This position is part of the Medical and Scientific Affairs Department and will be remote. At Cepheid, our vision is to be the leading provider of seamlessly connected diagnostic solutions.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
* Serves as resource to the medical/scientific community including emergency and infectious disease clinicians, OBGYNs, laboratory personnel, infection control, pharmacists and researchers
* Proactively educates healthcare professionals and supports commercial efforts by demonstrating the clinical value of Cepheid's diagnostic products
* Develops and maintains strong relationships with thought leaders (KOLs) to obtain advice, expert opinion and establish innovation partnerships
* Maintains knowledge in relevant scientific literature including clinical practice guidelines and emerging healthcare trends
* Participates in scientific meetings to engage KOLs, healthcare providers and customers
* Identifies research gaps, supports sponsored clinical trials, investigator-initiated research, Advisory Boards and Focus Groups to assist marketing in requirements for the product pipeline.
* Communicates insights from the medical/scientific community about unmet clinical or diagnostic needs and provides scientific expertise on product design, development and implementation
The essential requirements of the job include:
* Doctoral degree (PhD or PharmD) with 4+ years of experience OR Master's/Bachelor's degree with 12+ years of experience OR Nurse Practitioner/Registered Nurse License with 10+ years of clinical experience
* Knowledge of healthcare systems, clinical care pathways, hospital environments and/or clinical laboratory workflow
* Ability to effectively engage healthcare personnel and thought leaders
* Strong scientific writing and excellent communication skills
* Demonstrated success presenting medical/technical information in a concise manner to diverse scientific and clinical audiences
* Experience with translating value of laboratory innovation into clinical application
* Ability to travel domestically 60 - 70%
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
* Knowledge of infectious disease diagnostics and application to patient care
* FDA-regulated environment - in vitro diagnostic or biopharmaceutical industry
* 3+ years MSL experience
* For Ph.D., completion of a clinical residency program/fellowship is desirable (e.g., 2-year CPEP fellowship, through American Society for Microbiology)
* Leadership, management or supervisory experience
* Ability to read, analyze, interpret and summarize scientific publications, technical procedures and clinical practice guidelines

The salary range for this role is $146,000 - $186,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.
This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
