Job Description :

The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) is currently recruiting for a Quality Assurance Coordinator to join the team! The incumbent will be responsible for preparing, managing, and assisting with auditing for various metrics such as prenatal, birthweight, HIV, and dental. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Director with data reporting, aggregation and analysis of data, data validation, monitoring of progress towards goals, and preparation and participation in various quality committees.

We are seeking candidates who possess the following:

  • Strong computer skills including knowledge of Excel
  • Knowledge of IHEP Pay for Performance Programs (P4P)
  • Knowledge of Uniform Data System (UDS)
  • Knowledge of data auditing process
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to review and analyze data
  • Ability to recognize trends in data and assist with the creation of plan improvements
  • Ability to become familiar with various quality programs
  • Work Schedule: 9/80; (7:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

    *A valid CA Driver's license is required for this position.*

    Examples of Essential Duties (may include but not limited to):

  • Assists Manager, Quality Assessment, and Infection Control in identification of problem areas by compiling, analyzing, and summarizing information gathered from incident reporting systems, review of patient medical records, morbidity rates, department and committee meeting minutes, and other relevant sources.
  • Interviews complainants and conducts fact-finding investigations; assesses possible impact of incident reports submitted by hospital/health personnel and patient complaints in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Reports critical impact incidents to appropriate personnel, including the Human Resources Risk Division.
  • Recommends appropriate action to resolve patient complaints and incident reports; ensures that action plan is implemented; advises department heads of best practices for resolution of complaints; follows up to ensure that action has been taken and the issue resolved.
  • Develops continuing education programs on risk management and patient safety. Provides training to clinical staff including physicians, resident physicians, nurses, allied health professionals, and employees on State, Federal and local regulations related to patient care and safety.
  • Coordinates and monitors compliance with Quality Assessment Committee recommendations and policies, standards of patient care as required by regulatory agencies, and internal medical and other professional standards.
  • Develops and modifies the quality assurance plan, procedures, and documentation forms as required.
  • Develops reports and recommendations based on analysis of data collected.
  • Supervises maintenance of document tracking and cross-filing systems; assists in providing educational and technical assistance to various departments, programs or committees.
  • Supervises, evaluates, and trains subordinate staff; assists Quality Assurance Committee Chair in development of committee agenda.
  • Recruiting Guidelines:

    Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree preferably with major course work in business or public administration or health administration or statistics or natural sciences. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of 30 semester or 45 quarter units equaling one year of full-time experience.)

    Experience: Two years of progressively responsible experience in an administrative, professional, supervisory, or staff capacity, preferably in a hospital or health care agency, which involved the development and implementation of solutions to clinical or administrative problems concerning patient care and/or responsibility for organizational analysis or development of administrative systems and procedures (Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in business or healthcare administration or statistics may substitute up to one year of the specialized experience).

    Knowledge of: State, federal, local regulations, standards and procedures used to measure, assess and control quality of care provided by health care agencies; clinical/nursing processes including written care plans and principles of documentation; auditing standards and practices used to assess activities and medical services provided by health care agencies; quality assurance/control standards; research and statistical methods including data collection and analysis; efficient office management principles and procedures, medical terminology, basic statistical methods; filing and data retrieval systems.

    Ability to: Plan, coordinate, implement and report on quality assurance activities; identify and analyze critical aspects of problems relative to quality of patient care; understand, interpret and apply State, Federal, local regulations, medical standards and by-laws (i.e. Joint Commission, Title XXII); protect confidentiality of quality assurance activities; prepare clear and concise reports; maintain proper documentation; collect, organize, analyze and interpret statistical data; communicate effectively with medical and professional staff; supervise subordinate staff.

    Pre-Employment: All employment offers are contingent upon successful completion of both a pre-employment physical exam, including a drug/alcohol test, and a criminal background investigation, which involves fingerprinting. (A felony or misdemeanor conviction may disqualify the applicant from County employment.)

    Probationary Period: As an Approved Local Merit System, all County of Riverside employees, except those serving At Will, are subject to the probationary period provisions as specified in the applicable Memorandum of Understanding, County Resolution, or Salary Ordinance. Temporary and Per Diem employees serve at the pleasure of the agency/department head.
