Power Plant Operations Supervisor (3rd Shift)

Indianapolis, IN

Duration: 2 Year Contract

Shift: 10.30PM - 6.30AM (6 days a week) - OT Required.

Job Description:

USPRO is seeking a Power Plant Operations Supervisor (3rd Shift) who will oversee the daily operations and maintenance of Powerhouse assets during the third shift. This role involves supervising union tradesmen responsible for managing and maintaining equipment that provides electrical power, natural gas, steam, compressed air, cooling water, process water, and wastewater distribution across the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise Hourly Engineers: Oversee the daily activities and performance of Powerhouse Stationary Engineers on the assigned shift, ensuring adherence to operational standards and efficiency.
  • Review and Approve Time Records: Verify and approve hourly time entries, making necessary corrections to ensure accurate payroll and labor tracking.
  • Enforce Shop Rules and Discipline: Implement and enforce shop rules and regulations, addressing any disciplinary issues as required to maintain a productive and compliant work environment.
  • Schedule Work Activities: Plan and coordinate daily work assignments and activities for powerhouse personnel, ensuring optimal staffing and task management for the shift.
  • Coordinate Boiler Operations: Manage and oversee the operation of gas-fired boilers, ensuring they function efficiently and safely.
  • High Voltage Electrical Switching: Possess and apply knowledge of high voltage electrical switching (4,160-13.8 kV) to manage and control electrical systems within the plant.
  • Experience with Plant Equipment: Demonstrate expertise with plant chillers, pumps, and cooling towers, ensuring their proper operation and maintenance.
  • Utilize CMMS for Maintenance: Use Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) software, such as Maximo, to schedule and track preventative maintenance and repair activities.
  • Conduct Safety Inspections: Perform periodic safety inspections and lead daily safety briefings to ensure a safe working environment and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Communicate Performance Metrics: Share and communicate process performance metrics with the team, utilizing MS Office software for reporting and documentation.
  • Maintain Operational Logs: Keep accurate records of operational and utility logs, documenting daily activities and equipment status.
  • Implement Company Procedures: Apply and enforce company procedures and best practices to ensure consistent operations and compliance.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety, and Environmental Policies: Ensure compliance with corporate Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) policies and regulations.
  • Professional Interactions: Engage professionally with coworkers, suppliers, and vendors, fostering positive relationships and effective communication.
  • Set Work Priorities: Establish and manage work priorities to drive team results and achieve operational objectives.
  • Problem Solving and Improvement: Apply problem-solving skills and commit to the continuous improvement process to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Qualifications:

  • Educational and Experience Requirements:
  • Associate Degree in management or engineering with 4+ years of experience as an operations shift supervisor, OR
  • Bachelor's Degree in management or engineering with 2 years of experience as an operations shift supervisor, OR
  • 6+ Years of Experience as an operations shift supervisor in place of a degree
  • Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident
  • Technical Knowledge:
  • Familiarity with steam boilers, chillers, air compressors, cooling towers, pumps, and switchgear
  • Experience with high voltage electrical switching (4,160-13.8 kV)
  • Software Proficiency:
  • Proficiency in MS Office software
  • Problem-Solving Skills:
  • Ability to solve problems using continuous improvement techniques
