The Need

For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. 9 out of 9 times in the last decade, IJM's Justice System Strengthening Projects have reduced slavery and violence between 50 and 85% for very large populations of people in poverty. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence, we are seeking a Sr. Manager, Compensation & Benefits.

The Sr. Manager, Compensation & Benefits is responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and management of global compensation and benefits programs and global mobility practices that align with IJM's objectives in support of its global workforce. This role will ensure competitive, equitable and cost-effective compensation and benefits programs are in place to attract, motivate, and retain top talent. The Sr. Manager will work closely with HR leaders and business partners to design programs that meet the needs of employees while adhering to regulatory requirements and enterprise policies. This role supervises the US Benefits Administrator and the Global Mobility Lead.

This position is based in the Washington, DC area and is available to be hybrid (onsite Tuesdays & Thursdays). It reports to the Vice President, HR Operations and is only available for candidates with the right to work in the US.

Responsibilities:

Compensation

  • Develop and implement global compensation strategies, including base pay and incentive programs.
  • Conduct regular market analysis and benchmarking studies to ensure competitive and equitable compensation practices across all regions.
  • Design and manage job evaluation and grading systems to ensure consistency and fairness in pay practices.
  • Oversee the annual salary review process, including merit increases, promotions, COLA adjustments, and any other monetary allocations.
  • Provide guidance to HR and business leaders on compensation decisions, policies, and practices.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international compensation regulations and standards.
  • Prepare and present compensation reports and analytics to the chief people officer and to senior leadership to inform strategic decision making.

Benefits

  • Design and manage global benefits programs, including health and wellness plans, retirement plans, leave policies, and other employee benefits.
  • Conduct regular reviews and audits of benefits programs to ensure they remain competitive, cost effective, and aligned with employee needs.
  • Negotiate with benefits providers and manage vendor relationships to optimize program offerings and costs.
  • Oversee benefits enrollment processes, including open enrollment, new hire enrollment, and life event changes.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies to educate employees about benefits programs and changes.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and international benefits regulations and standards.
  • Monitor and analyze benefits utilization and costs, providing recommendations for program enhancements and cost saving measures.

Strategic Planning

  • Work with the VP of HR Operations to develop and execute global compensation and benefit strategies aligned with IJM's goals and objectives.
  • Lead compensation and benefits projects, including program design, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Partner with HR business partners and other stakeholders to understand business needs and develop tailored compensation and benefits solutions.
  • Stay current with industry trends, best practices, and regulatory changes related to compensation and benefits.
  • Develop and manage the compensation and benefits budget, ensuring cost effective use of resources.
  • Foster a culture of continuous improvement by identifying and implementing process enhancements and efficiencies.
  • Lead the US Benefits Administrator and provide guidance and support.
  • Develop and implement training programs for HR staff and managers to ensure understanding and compliance with compensation and benefits policies and practices.
  • Develop employee rewards and recognition strategies.
  • Fulfill all reporting requirements of all relevant government rules and regulations, including the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA).
  • Partner with Payroll department and provide timely data.
  • Own all business processes in HRIS (Workday) related to Compensation and benefits, serving as the subject matter expert.
  • Study legislation and arbitration decisions to assess industry trends.

Global Mobility

  • Provide direction and leadership to the global mobility lead, to develop and implement a comprehensive global mobility strategy that aligns with IJM's business goals and talent management objectives.
  • Ensure mobility programs are competitive, cost effective, and compliant with local and international regulations.
  • Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of our mobility programs, making recommendations for improvements as needed.

General Tasks

  • Participate in IJM's community of spiritual formation.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in human resources, business administration, finance, or a related field. Masters degree preferred.
  • Minimum of eight to 10 years of experience in compensation and benefits, with at least three years in a leadership or managerial role.
  • Proven experience in designing and managing global compensation and benefits programs.
  • Knowledge of international compensation and benefits practices and regulations.
  • Professional certification is a plus (CCP, CBP, SPHR).

Technical Competencies

  • Strong understanding of compensation and benefits principles, practices, and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency in Workday HRIS and compensation management systems.

  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and provide meaningful insights.
  • Strong project management skills, with a track record of successfully delivering compensation and benefits projects on time and within budget.
