Job Description McAllister Towing has provided superior tugboat service to New York Harbor since 1864, when Captain James McAllister, great-grandfather to current president Brian Buckley McAllister, bought his first sail lighter to carry cargo from Manhattan to Brooklyn. Today, McAllister's tugs provide a wide variety of services to the busy ports of New York and New Jersey, serving the most concentrated and affluent consumer market in the world and handling a significant part of the 16 million tons of cargo that passes through the port every year. In addition to ship docking services and general harbor assist work, New York based tugs are regularly employed in offshore towing along the entire East Coast. McAllister Towing is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Environmental Specialist Manager. Duties and responsibilities are outlined below: Environmental Specialist Manager Reports to: •The Environmental Specialist Manager reports to the Marine Compliance Manager / DPA. Supervises: •No direct reports. Overall Description: In an age of heightened environmental consciousness and increasing global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and resource depletion, organizations have a pivotal role to play. Description of Duties: •Plans, develops and implements environmental strategies and policies throughout the organization to align not only regulatory compliance but also ongoing environmental improvement. This proactive approach to environmental management can result in tangible benefits, such as reduced waste, energy conservation, and cost savings. •Develops environmental programs for the maritime ecosystem, site compliance inspections and environmental emergency action plans. •Manages environmental activities across multiple sites throughout the enterprise, manages regulated wastes and storage sites, site environmental programs, and site environmental evaluations. •Works with other team members to promote environmental compliance through maintenance and operations, including training, auditing, and maintaining permit compliance. •Develops training and educational tools regarding environmental goals, compliance, and awareness. •Provides environmental expertise to internal teams and coordinates with stakeholders regarding relevant issues and requirements. •Stays current on changes in environmental policy and regulations to assess and mitigate risks. •Assists HSSE Manager and supports HSSE team in other projects as assigned. •Responsible for compiling, tracking and reporting the relevant environmental activities and objectives for McAllister's annual Sustainability Report. •Assists in the development, implementation, and maintenance of the company's Quality, Safety, Security, and Environmental Protection programs as needed. •Ensures company and vessel compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies. •Works with Legal, Operations, Human Resources and Insurance Departments to identify and remediate environmental risks. •Assists in managing the Quality and Safety Management System, and reports on its operation. •Works on, and assists others on new projects, requests for proposals, and completes related environmental questionnaires. •Assists in the development and implementation of strategies in pursuit of corporate quality, safety, security and environmental goals, monitors progress in achieving those goals, and takes appropriate corrective and preventive actions to ensure the achievement of these goals. •Assist others in understanding and complying with OSHA, ABS, EPA and USCG and MARPOL regulations and standards, including guidance on the preparation, conduct and follow-up for audits, examinations and inspections. •Assists in identifying hazards, communicating hazard control information and evaluating the effectiveness of the hazard control measures. •Assists General Managers with any HSQE matters. •Assesses new developments in the health, safety, security and environmental protection fields relevant to McAllister operations. •Acts as a company representative in dealings with regulatory bodies on health, safety, security and environmental protection matters. •Ensures the acquisition and distribution of appropriate environmental protection reference materials. •Other duties as may be directed by the Marine Compliance Manager. Minimum Requirements: •A bachelor's degree in the maritime field (deck or engine) or equivalent educational/professional background in Environmental Management is required. •TWIC •Professional auditor credentials and experience as an ISM Auditor, ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 Lead Auditor. •Position requires superior written and oral communication skills. •A proven track record of leadership •Superior computer skills, with prior experience in compliance database development/reporting. •Potential candidates must undergo and pass a comprehensive background check. Preferred Skills/Certifications: •Experience in vessel operations and managing a fleet with ISO 14001 standards. •Class Surveyor or regulatory vessel inspection experience. •Prior experience aboard US Flag tugs or commercial vessels •United States Coast Guard license or Merchant Mariner Credential Physical Requirements: While primarily working in a sedentary office environment, the incumbent must also travel extensively to oversee and assess compliance related field activities in port offices and aboard vessels in the fleet. Salary: Annual $110,000.00 - $140,000.00 FLSA Status:
