Overview:Schedule: Tuesday-SaturdayHours: 9am-5pm with one late day 12pm-8pmLocation: In person in the Lower East SideSalary: $50,000Program Overview: Inaugurated in 1991 and funded by the New York City Department of Homeless Services, Helen's House is a transitional housing program that provides temporary accommodations with on-site social services for 16 single parents and their children up to nine years old. During their stay, each family is housed in a furnished efficiency apartment, and has access to onsite social services that address the psychological and concrete causes and effects of homelessness and unemployment. The Case Manager/Housing Specialist is an integral member of the interdisciplinary treatment team, serving as the primary contact for our families and outside providers as they support families with rebuilding their lives while managing housing concerns.Qualifications:Bachelor's degree requiredMinimum of 3 years of experience working with indigent and or homeless populations Some supervisory experience preferredExperience working with the DHS CARES systemStrong case management and Organizational skillsGood judgment and problem-solving abilityExcellent oral and written communication skills Ability to keep calm and work well with people Knowledge of computers such as Microsoft office, outlook, etc.Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferredResponsibilities:Coordinate all social services for residents including working interactively in the development of Independent Living Plan (ILP) service plansProvide individual/family counseling and crisis interventionComplete intakes and assessments to formulate service plans and goals and assist clients to implement service plansConduct unit inspections and safety checksDevelopment and implementation of employability plan with residents and agencies employment programEnsure shelter's rules and regulations are communicated to residents and that clients understand and work towards meeting their responsibilities as outlined in their Independent Living Plan (ILP)Accompany residents to appointments including public assistance, apartment viewing, interviews, lease signing, and furniture shopping when necessaryMaintain and develop up-to-date information and resources to meet the diverse social services and housing needs of Helen's House familiesEstablish and develop new linkages with real estate brokers and landlords; maintain an active roster of real estate brokers and landlords; make contacts with landlords and other housing agentsPlace 4 residents per quarter into permanent housingAssist residents with completing relevant applications for housing subsidies and programsFacilitate workshops and prepare residents for employment and housing, as neededWork with agencies employment team to assist clients with reaching and maintaining independence goalsPerform all other tasks deemed necessary at the direction of the Program supervisor to aide in the shelter's achieving its programmatic goalsEssential Physical Job Functions:Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time, as neededAbility to climb multiple flights of stairs throughout the dayFully vaccinated against COVID-19Ability to work onsite in the Lower East Side
