The Online Student Support Specialist provides vitally important connections with students to help them overcome hurdles, chart their paths forward, and ultimately earn the degrees they seek.The Online Student Support Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting online student success and promoting retention. This position is responsible for implementing strategies and initiatives to enhance online students' engagement, satisfaction, and persistence. The Online Student Support Specialist serves as a proactive resource for students, providing academic advising, monitoring, guidance, support, and resource referral to help them overcome challenges and achieve their educational goals. This position will be a remote employment position with periodic travel requirements to the College campus. Qualified candidates residing in the following states are eligible to be considered for this remote position: NC, SD, TX, MI, MO, AZ, GA, IA, KS, MN, and NE. Examples of Work Performed Student Engagement and Support Proactively reach out to online students throughout their academic journey to foster connection and engagement with Peru State College to identify challenges, provide guidance, and offer support in navigating academic and personal issues. Collaborate with faculty, advisors, and other student-support services to ensure a holistic approach to student success. Develop and implement engagement strategies, including webinars, workshops, and online activities, to foster community among Peru State's online students.Academic Advising and Progress Tracking Provide preliminary academic advising to online students, assisting them in course selection, degree planning, and understanding academic policies and requirements. Monitor online students' academic progress, identify potential barriers, and intervene when necessary to address academic challenges and keep students progressing toward degree completion. Collaborate with faculty to identify online students at risk of falling behind or experiencing academic difficulties, and develop and implement intervention plans to support their success.Retention Program Development and Implementation Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement retention programs, initiatives, and interventions to improve online student retention rates. Analyze student data to identify trends and patterns related to retention, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement. Develop and deliver training sessions and workshops for faculty and staff to enhance their understanding of retention strategies and their roles in supporting student success. Evaluate the effectiveness of retention programs and initiatives, making adjustments as needed to optimize student outcomes.Student Support and Referral Services Serve as a resource for online students, providing information and referrals to appropriate support services, including tutoring, counseling, career services, and disability services as well as help with study skills, time management techniques, and strategies for effective online learning. Collaborate with student-support departments to ensure students receive timely and appropriate assistance. Assist students in navigating such administrative procedures as registration, financial aid, and transcript requests. Provide guidance and resources for students experiencing personal challenges that may impact their academic progress.Communication and Outreach Develop and implement communication plans to engage and inform online students about college resources, support services, and important deadlines. Maintain regular communication with online students through various channels, including email, chat platforms, and online forums, to keep them progressing toward degree completion. Collaborate with marketing and communications teams to develop retention-related materials, including newsletters, success stories, and tips for academic success. Collect and analyze online student feedback to identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for enhancing the student experience.Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree or related online education work experience. Prior experience in online student retention, online academic advising, or online student support services.
