Provide leadership, administration, coordination, and guidance on all area surfaces, while providing a fun, safe environment for athletes, guests and employees. Transition Sugar Bowl's public parks into something unique to Tahoe. Provide a training ground for elite freestyle athletes as well as an adventure for our guests. Lead Sugar Bowl's Terrain Park design, layout, construction and maintenance. Deliver consistency and high quality. This is a hands-on position; your product and production must be of the highest level. You will work closely with numerous operating departments, including butnot limited to Snowmaking, Marketing, Sport, the Sugar Bowl Freestyle Team and Ski Patrol. During the summer months you oversee terrain park feature build and maintenance, contribute to operating and capital projects as a heavy equipment operator, resort-wide welding projects, grooming tractor and heavy equipment maintenance, snow making system maintenance and summer trail crew operations.Why Sugar Bowl?Sugar Bowl Resort has been proudly independent for over 80 years and is one of the oldest ski resorts in California. Since then, it continues to attract adventurous winter sports enthusiasts a like.Who you are* Extensive knowledge and skills in designing, building and maintaining fluid, creative and safe terrain parks.* Experience leading world-class events.* Master Grooming and builder operating skills including park winch cat operations.* Experience designing and building innovative features.* Excellent leadership skills with the ability to maintain a happy, safe and productive crew.* Energetic, friendly and outgoing with strong customer service and managerial skills.* Excellent heavy equipment operating skills such as a front-end loader, excavator and backhoe.* Working knowledge of surveying and grading techniques.* Knowledge of snowmaking systems and maintenance and repair.* Must have the ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.* Professional verbal and written communication skills to include Sketchup or equivalent.* Ability to succeed in extreme weather conditions on extreme terrain.* Must be able to ski or snowboard at a high level with tools or equipment.* Must be able to lift items weighing up to 50 pounds.* Able to work any hours of the day, any days of the week* Must have a valid driver's license. Sees projects through to the finish and practices getting back to people on issues.* Proficient in managing a fast paced, potentially high-pressure environment.* Prioritizes and re-prioritizes personal time and work, to have good work/life balance.What you will do* Maintain a safe, consistent and fun work environment.* Responsible for providing leadership, motivation, planning, work assignments, establishing schedules and deadlines, directing, reviewing work and quality control, hiring, training, rewarding, and disciplining Terrain Park Groomers and Rangers* Direct terrain feature design and park layout. Supervise, participate and oversee construction of terrain features during the development and maintenance of terrain parks. Ensure that all projects and openings are efficiently completed to meet opening dates/days. Exceed expectations for all levels of terrain park users with a strong focus in ensuring progression for all users.* Confer and collaborate with Marketing and Sport to assist with selection, planning and execute innovative events.* Analyze user trends and implement related changes to park design.* Build really good parks consistently really well done.* Develop, and communicate to team members, the short and long ranged department plans, goals and objectives. Oversee the implementation of these strategies.* Ensure safety is priority one. Lead risk management for Terrain Parks, including but not limited to ensuring industry best practices are being followed and expected safety training is fulfilled and documented.* Evaluate conditions by skiing/riding in the parks regularly, determining courses of action and communicating with appropriate team members.* Develop, facilitate and deliver user education.* Develop, lead and execute progressive teaching terrain to support the Sport including terrain-based teaching, progressive park/pipe features, and innovative ways to attract, engage and retain young and new skiers/riders.* Maintain a good interdepartmental relationship with Snowmaking and Grooming. Participate in snowmaking production.* Conduct employee on-mountain and snowmobile training and follow up with operational practices and skills reviews.* Contribute to the development of annual budgets and monthly variance reports.* Develop and maintain relationships and negotiate with vendors to procure goods and services within the scope of approved budgets.* Enforce Sugar Bowl, State and OSHA safety policies and perform weekly safety meetings.* Work with the Fleet & Roads Director to ensure grooming tractors are clean, serviced and in good working order.* Design build and maintain terrain park hard features. Conduct all required repair and painting of hard features in the off-season.* Contribute to Resort, Trail Crew and capital projects at a high level during the off-season.*
