Overview:

To meet the intellectual, emotional, spiritual and social needs of all residents by planning, organizing, evaluating, directing and participating in a program of diversified activities. Maintains aworking relationship with all ALP Personnel as well as residents, family members, friends of residents, volunteers and community groups. Responsible for the treatment and safety of residents in activities programs.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinates a monthly schedule of activities for the residents which take into consideration the age, sex, physical and mental capabilities, interest and the cultural and social background of the residents. The schedule will include:
    • Individual, small group and large group of activities;
    • Facility-based and community activities;
    • Physical exercise or other activities;
    • Social interactions; and
    • Opportunities for both active and passive resident involvement
  • Provides opportunities for residents who participate in programs to assist in activity planning.
  • Coordinates the activities program with the schedule of other resident services.
  • Maintains knowledge of available neighborhood programs, events and informs residents.
  • Plans community outings for resident which are safe or interest and assessable.
  • Assist the residents in arranging transportation to neighborhood programs and events.
  • Assist the resident in organizing activities of interest to them and adapt the activities to meet resident individual needs.
  • Directly provides periodic leisure activity program which are readily available for residents to participate in as desired and adapted to meet resident individual needs.
  • Ensures that all activities schedules are posted in a place known by all residents. The posted activities include location, date, time and contact person knowledgeable about each activity. Activity schedules are posted the first day of each month for the entire month and will reflect changes as they occur.
  • Promote resident participation in choosing monthly activities and/or planning excursions.
  • Participates in the selection, orientation, training, evaluation and supervision of volunteers.
  • Responsible for contacting community resources for activities to be conducted either in the facility, community and makes provision for residents when capabilities permit to participate in these activities.
  • Attends and participates in staff education programs.
  • Able to adapt the activities to meet resident individual needs.
  • Request, obtain and maintain equipment and supplies.
  • Plans the current monthly schedule of activities and maintain activity schedule for one (1) year.
  • Monitors floors and rooms to ensure all calendars are posted for current month.
  • Provide support and assistance as requested with the Resident Council Meeting.
  • Responsible for announcements of certain events in the facility (Senior Citizen Month, etc.). Responsible for resident's registration, absentee ballots and voting for primary and general elections.
  • Maintain and Document resident participation in group and individual activity programs.
  • Assumes responsibility for the initial resident interviews, develop activities care plan and attends resident care plan meetings.
  • Arranges and coordinates a variety of meaningful programs, which meet the cultural and ethnic background of residents. Provides various opportunities for residents which their physicians approval to pursue leisure activities seven days a week.
  • Arranges dietary department refreshments necessary for group programs.
  • Assist with EQUAL grant purchases and maintain receipts.
  • Direct and assist in the decoration of the ALP to create a holiday theme.
  • Help organize and attend family functions.
  • Make sure all residents are visited, have independent activities of choice and communicate with their family.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of two (2) years full-time experience in the provision of services to an adult population.
  • OR Associates Degree from an accredited college or university with major in Recreation or a related field and minimum two (2) years of full-time experience in the provision of services to an adult population.
  • OR Bachelors Degree, preferred, in Recreation with minimum of one (1) year experience in the provision of services to an adult population.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Computer proficient using Microsoft office, other computer software and typing.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills required.
  • Understanding of Assisted Living Program Regulations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Consistent with that necessary to work in a variety of patient care and office settings.
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift and carry items weighing or exerting force up to 100 pounds.
