Description: Job Summary: The Quality Specialist is responsible for ensuring all lab equipment, procedures, and materials are maintained to the highest standards to provide accurate data to internal and external customers in a highly efficient manner. The Quality Specialist, with the assistance of the Quality Manager, will coordinate laboratory technician and microbiologist proficiency testing and refresher training. The Quality Specialist will work cross departmentally to provide a smooth exchange of data and incident investigations to appropriate stakeholders. This role will also assist with growing and developing the Octopi sensory program. Primary Responsibilities: Review, compile, and analyze quality analytical data through statistical process control charting. Including identifying and communicating trends, anomalies, and potential quality issues. Coordinating process improvement within the quality and production departments based on the data. Maintain accurate and detailed records of all lab activities, testing results, and quality control procedures. Plan, coordinate, and monitor the maintenance activities of the laboratory equipment. Including training peers to focus on quality at the source. Ensure proper functioning of all lab equipment and escalate any known issues to appropriate stakeholders including plan for work around/repair. Continuously assess and improve lab processes, methodologies, and testing techniques to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and productivity. Coordinate new lab personnel training on testing protocols, safety procedures, and quality control practices. Monitor and manage lab inventory, reagents, and supplies to ensure availability for testing and prevent product holds. Develop, implement, and enforce quality control protocols and procedures to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance with industry standards and regulations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address quality-related challenges. Includes leading root cause analysis activities and ensuring all corrective actions are being completed in a timely fashion throughout the facility. Assist with conducting training on quality assurance concepts and tools throughout the facility. Stay up-to-date with relevant regulations and industry standards related to food and beverage quality and safety. Ensure all lab practices, testing methods, and documentation meet regulatory requirements. Conduct routine testing of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products to verify quality and safety attributes as needed. Assist with growing and developing the Octopi sensory program. Adhere to all PPE and GMP requirements. Maintain clean, safe, and organized work environment. Performs other related duties as assigned. Requirements: Required Skills/Abilities: Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to mentor and guide peers. Proficiency in using lab equipment and analytical instruments, as well as relevant software for data analysis and reporting. Thorough understanding of quality control principles, testing methodologies, and regulatory compliance. Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues. Effective communication skills to liaise with cross-functional teams and provide clear reporting. Knowledge of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Ability to lift 55lbs and move 165lbs. Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in food science, Chemistry, Microbiology, or related field. 2 years of experience in a quality control or analytical laboratory role within the food and beverage industry, with specific skills in lab instrumentation management. Minimum of 2 years leadership experience. Demonstrated knowledge of brewing processes, yeast management, and the physicochemical analysis techniques associated with the industry.
