Senior Laboratory Technician

Westchester County Department of Labs and Research is recruiting for a Senior Laboratory Technician (I-Environmental Science). Under the direct supervision of professional laboratory personnel, the successful candidate in this position performs traditional chemical, physical and bacteriological tests of environmental samples and other products which involve the accurate completion of a variety of standardized tests and procedures in the discipline of Environmental Science.

Responsibilities Include but Not Limited to:

• Preparing media, solutions, standards, and samples for analysis by others, as well as maintains equipment in accordance with established procedures. It is intended that the work of this class including the performance of tests, adherence to established policies, practices and procedures be reviewed by professional laboratory personnel;

• Although supervision is not normally a responsibility of this class, partial supervision may be exercised over other technical and subordinate laboratory personnel on a project or temporary basis as assigned;

• The successful candidate must maintain a satisfactory rating of performance by the New York State Department of Health for those procedures for which approval has been granted to the laboratory. Works overtime, holidays and weekends when required. Does related work as required;

Required Qualifications:

A High school or equivalency diploma and either: (a) Satisfactory completion of 60 credits of college level course work which included at least eight (8) credits in one of the chemical, biological, physical, or environmental sciences; or (b) three (3) years of laboratory experience and/or training in a recognized laboratory performing technical laboratory procedures in the field of environmental science.

NOTE: Unless otherwise noted, only experience gained after attaining the minimum education level indicated in the minimum qualifications will be considered in evaluating experience.
