The Carpenter will be responsible for performing carpenter maintenance on all University buildings. This position has been evaluated for compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act and is subject to premium pay for all hours worked in excess of 40 in a payroll week. This position/title is covered by the CSEA, Local 749 union contract. The successful candidate will be a member of the CSEA, Local 749 bargaining unit.
Salary:$19.00-$21.00/hour, depending on experience, 40 hours per week.
Responsibilities:
- Construct and repair structural woodwork and equipment in an establishment working from blueprints and/or oral instruction.
- Build, repair, and install counters, cabinets, benches, partitions, floors, doors, building framework and trim.
- Hang sheet rock.
- Install glass in windows and doors; hang doors.
- Replace damaged ceiling tile and floor tile.
- Perform minor roof repairs such as repairing flashing.
- Install and repair ceramic flooring. Perform minor masonry repairs and do minor concrete work.
- Move and/or assemble office and residence hall furniture including desks, beds, dressers, mattresses.
- Repair and install various types of door hardware, closures, and locks.
- Maintain campus fire extinguishers.
- Other duties as assigned; move/unload material, support campus events, paint, install signs.
- Coordinate work with and/or assist plumbers, electricians, and grounds workers.
- Maintains a safe working environment within and around their facilities and associated equipment and supplies including, but not limited to, obtaining Safety Data Sheet (SDS) information pertaining to any hazards associated with their work environment.
- Safety: Participate in safety training and comply with safety rules, regulations, and protocols.
- Perform additional duties and assist with special projects as assigned.
Requirements:
- Formal Education: Two years vocational/trades school.
- Experience: Four years of full time experience in carpentry.
- Additional Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of all aspects of carpentry work such as reading blueprints, lumber grades, some computer skills desirable. Knowledge of all carpentry hand tools and ability to run power saws, drills, radial arm saws, table saws, grinders, jointers, sanders, planers, and masonry saws.
