Position Summary The Public/Private Development team encourages economic development in the Commonwealth while preserving and enhancing the state transportation system. To that end, PPDU facilitates the environmental review and permitting of the transportation-related elements of private development projects in need of access to the state transportation system. Throughout the process, PPDU works with the MassDOT Divisions for Highway and Rail and Transit, as well as, the MBTA to coordinate the environmental process with the development permit process in order to expedite the review of project proposals and issuance of associated permits. PPDU works with the MassDOT Highway Division, the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), and the MassDOT Rail and Transit Division, to coordinate the environmental process with the development permit process in order to expedite the review of project proposals and issuance of associated permits. A Co-op in this group will participate in preparing for Massachusetts Department of Transportation reviews of private developments requiring access to the state highway system, and perform a variety of related duties. Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review transportation monitoring reports (TMRs) received for built private developments
  • Analyze and upload data from TMRs in TMR Developer Tool
  • Use traffic count data from the TMRs to establish local trip generation rate or equation for different land uses
  • Review and analyze impacts of all TDM components implemented by developments on traffic
  • Conduct research for land use and transportation mitigation around the country and summarize best practices
  • Assist PPDU Manager with SharePoint site document management
