Salary : $39,499.20 - $54,371.20 Annually Location : Winnemucca, NV Job Type: Full-time Job Number: 00187 Department/Office: County Manager's Office Opening Date: 08/23/2024 Closing Date: 10/7/2024 5:00 PM Pacific Description Responsible for performing custodial and cleaning duties in County buildings, facilities, and adjacent grounds to ensure efficient and safe operations. Distinguishing Characteristics: This is the working level class in the Custodian series. Work is performed without immediate supervision in an assigned area, and may involve working around other County staff, or public, or both depending upon assignment. This class is distinguished from Custodial Supervisor in that the latter provides supervisory direction to one or more custodians on a shift, or location, or both. Supervision Exercised and Received: Incumbents at this level are given assignments and objectives that are governed by specifically outlined work methods and a sequence of steps, which are explained in general terms. The responsibility for achieving the work objectives, however, rests with a superior. Immediate supervision is not consistent, but checks are integrated into work processes and/or reviews are frequent enough to ensure compliance with instructions. Examples of Duties (Performance of these functions is the reason the job exists. Assigned job tasks/duties are not limited to the essential functions).
  • Following established procedures or verbal instructions, selects the proper chemicals and supplies and effectively and safely cleans and disinfects hallways, stairways, offices, meeting and other rooms, auditoriums, restrooms, drinking fountains, benches, etc.
  • Dusts, sweeps, mops, vacuums, and polishes surfaces and floors.
  • Operates floor cleaning machines, buffers, and carpet cleaning machines.
  • Performs special cleaning tasks such as disinfecting contaminated or frequently used areas.
  • Moves furniture, equipment, and other items such as files, partitions, supply boxes, displays, storage containers, etc.
  • Empties and cleans waste containers; transports waste materials to appropriate containers.
  • Ensures that appropriate supplies such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and related items are available to users. Maintains proper inventory of cleaning materials and supplies at assigned workstations.
  • Daily, as well as after various public functions, checks windows, doors, and office equipment to ensure they are secured and/or turned off.
  • May assist in maintaining outside areas adjacent to the facility in a safe condition by removing snow and other debris, sweeping, and hosing down areas.
  • Drives a County motor vehicle to specified work sites.
  • Keeps basic records of work performed, time sheets, etc.
  • May perform minimal maintenance in the building such as touch-up painting, replacing light bulbs, hanging, and removing pictures, repairing/replacing stair treads, and related activities.
  • Reports damage, malfunctions, hazards, or irregularities of buildings and equipment to supervisor.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Represents the County with dignity, integrity, and a spirit of cooperation in all relationships with staff and the public.
  • Typical QualificationsKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: (KSAs are the attributes required to perform a job; generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or training.) Knowledge of:
    • Equipment, materials, and supplies used in cleaning, disinfecting, and maintaining facilities;
    • Safe and proper methods of using/mixing chemicals, solvents, and other potentially hazardous materials;
    • Agency policies, procedures, and practices related to custodial services;
    • Cleaning and disinfecting procedures; and
    • Appropriate tools or equipment for cleaning specific areas, or performing routine maintenance tasks.
    Skill to:
    • Working without close supervision in standard work situations;
    • Follow established procedures; and
    • Follow written and oral instructions.
    Ability to:
    • Comply Use cleaning equipment and tools properly and safely;
    • Operate small hand and power tools properly and safely;
    • Operate electric floor cleaning and maintenance equipment properly and safely;
    • Perform snow and trash removal; and
    • Communicate courteously with others.
    Required Certifications and Licenses: Possession of a valid driver's license or alternate means of travel. Ability to pass a Sheriff's Office grade background check. Experience and Training: Any combination of training, education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities. A typical way to gain the required knowledge and ability is: Education level sufficient to have acquired basic reading and comprehension, and ability to understand spoken instructions and to communicate verbally.     Retirement Nevada Public Employees' Retirement System (PERS)(1):
    • Humboldt County, Nevada contributes 33.50% of an eligible Regular Member's salary for retirement.
    Nevada Deferred Compensation Program (NDC):
    • The NDC is voluntary retirement savings program for employees of the State of Nevada, NSHE and other local government employers.
    • The program is designed to supplement other retirement savings and pensions.
    • Contributions are made pre-tax and investment earnings are tax-deferred or you may invest on pre-tax(Roth) basis and your investment earnings will be tax free upon eligible withdrawal.

    Insurance Coverage Insurance Stipend:
    • Humboldt County, Nevada provides a monthly insurance stipend to assist employees who elect to participate in any of the County offered insurance plans.
    • The stipend for Fiscal Year 2023-2024 is $1,300.00 per month.
    Health Insurance Eligibility:
    • Employees working 30 hours or more per week are eligible for health insurance coverage.
    • Eligible employees as defined in the group health insurance plan are eligible to enroll in the group health insurance plan effective the first of the month following 30 days of employment.
    • Dependents of employees, as defined in the current plan booklet, are also eligible for coverage under the insurance plan at the employee's expense.
    • Employees must authorize a payroll deduction of any share of the health coverage premium, which is to be paid by the employee.

    Leave Plans Annual Leave:
    • All full-time employees will earn annual leave beginning from their initial date of hire at a rate of .0385 hours earned per hour's paid(3).
    • Part-time employees who regularly work 20 hours or more per week will earn annual leave on a pro-rated basis.
    • Employees earn additional annual leave hours at 3, 6, 11, 16 and 21 years of service up to a maximum of 192 hours per year.
    • While on probationary period, an employee cannot take annual leave for the first six months; the employee still accrues vacation leave during this time.
    Sick Leave:
    • Eligible Humboldt County, Nevada employees accrue sick leave at the rate of .0384 hours for each hour worked up to a maximum accrual of 120 hours per year with a maximum accrual of 980 hours.
    Holiday Leave:
    • Eligible Humboldt County, Nevada employees enjoy 12 paid holidays per year plus one additional day as a floating holiday(4).

    Note: Humboldt County, Nevada provides benefits to regular employees. Most part time positions are ineligible for benefits. 1: PERS retirement benefits are only available to employees hired in positions that work 20 hours per week or more on a regular basis.
