Job Title: Laydown Yard Supervisor

Job Summary:
The Laydown Yard Supervisor is a working supervisor role responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring proper handling, storage, and transportation of materials in the yard. This position involves both leadership and hands-on work, including operating heavy equipment such as a 35-ton forklift and a loader. The Supervisor will verify the accuracy and quality of incoming deliveries, maintain stock organization, and ensure safe and efficient yard operations. This is not a desk job; it requires active participation in material handling, equipment operation, and team supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Supervision & Coordination:
- Oversee and participate in the daily laydown yard activities, ensuring all deliveries and materials are processed accurately and efficiently.
- Manage, train, and assign tasks to yard personnel, ensuring compliance with safety standards and company policies.
- Communicate with project managers, contractors, and other teams to coordinate material delivery and distribution.
2. Heavy Equipment Operation & Material Handling:
- Operate heavy construction equipment such as a 35-ton forklift, telehandler, and large wheel loader to move, load, and unload materials.
- Safely load materials onto and off pallets, trays, racks, and shelves by hand or using equipment.
- Secure materials for transport with strapping, bracing, or padding to prevent damage during transit.
- Move materials to and from storage or work sites using hand trucks, electric dollies, or other equipment as necessary.
3. Inventory Management & Quality Control:
- Verify the accuracy and quality of incoming deliveries, ensuring all materials match purchase orders and are undamaged.
- Label and organize products, placing them in the appropriate locations for easy retrieval during operations.
- Maintain an updated account of inventory and conducting regular stock checks.
- Assemble crates for products as needed, using hand tools.
4. Equipment Maintenance & Yard Organization:
- Conduct regular maintenance on all material handling equipment to ensure optimal performance and safety.
- Keep the laydown yard well-organized, clean, and efficient, minimizing risks and maintaining productivity.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations, conducting regular inspections of equipment and work areas.
Job Requirements:
1. Skills:
- Ability to operate heavy construction equipment such as a telehandler and large wheel loader (35-ton with forks).
- Proficiency in safely handling and moving materials, ensuring proper labeling and storage procedures.
- Strong verbal communication skills and the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, maintain attention to detail, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
2. Physical Requirements:
- Ability to push, pull, bend, stoop, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Sufficient mobility, strength, flexibility, hearing, and vision to perform all job-related tasks and access relevant work areas.
- Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions and perform physically demanding tasks.
- Willingness to work overtime with little notice when needed.
3. Experience:
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a supervisory role in a laydown yard, warehouse, or similar environment.
Work Conditions:
- This is a hands-on, physically demanding position that requires working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Regular operation of heavy equipment and manual handling of materials.
