Christiana Hospital, located on our Newark, Delaware Campus. Christiana Hospital includes a Level I trauma center (as verified by the American College of Surgeons), which is prepared to handle the most extreme of medical emergencies. In fact, it houses is the only one on the East Coast corridor between Baltimore and Philadelphia. Our Christiana Emergency Department serves our community in a very important way. Our Clerk/Registrars are often times the first encounter our patients and family members have with our organization. We are seeking an Emergency Department Clerical Supervisor to lead this important 24/7 team.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Responsible for directing, supervising, and coordinating caregivers in Emergency Department Registration to ensure an efficient and accurate registration/ throughput process while providing exceptional customer service.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversees the daily operations and fiscal responsibilities of ED Registration to include accurate check-in; check out, information capture and revenue collection.
  • Provides leadership support to the team while also completing registration functions as needed to assist the team during peak volumes
  • Creates & manages caregivers schedules to ensure adequate staffing
  • Responsible for recommending budget items and requisitioning supplies approved.
  • Responsible for evaluating caregiver performance and recommends merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions as needed.
  • Responsible for hiring new caregivers and developing a successful onboarding/orientation process
  • Maintains electronic timecards and payroll approval responsibilities
  • Ensures office space, supplies and equipment are maintained appropriately.
  • Ensures business functions are operative, effective, and efficient while meeting regulatory and policy standards.
  • Reviews business processes while making recommendations for improvement.
  • Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices; reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other caregivers, patients and visitors.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Education: Associates Degree in healthcare of business, or 4 years' experience in business/healthcare administrative environment

Experience

Four years of progressive leadership experience in a healthcare setting is required. Hospital experience preferred. Knowledge of and functionality with a computerized registration and scheduling system, preferably Powerchart and Soarian. Basic computer skills that include word and excel. Basic knowledge of Medical Terminology. Staffing and shift coverage experience. Advanced customer service skills demonstrating professional conduct and courtesy. In-depth knowledge of third-party payers and understanding of the pre-certification process.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work accurately with a high volume of work in a fast-paced setting. Sets priorities and solves problems.

  • Possesses and implements excellent interpersonal, critical thinking, analytic, organizational, and negotiating skills
  • Must be proficient on house credit and collection policy, Community Financial Assistance Program criteria and process, demonstrate a high level of expertise with regard to critical data elements required for a complete and accurate registration and exhibit continuous growth in both understanding of and integration with all processes within the Revenue Cycle.
  • Knowledge of organizational policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of fiscal management and human resource management techniques.
  • Knowledge of office management techniques and practices.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Setting, defining, assigning, monitoring, and evaluating outcomes of tasks and goals.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Licenses / Certifications: None required

Work Schedule: Works a minimum of 40 hours per week, primarily day shift during business hours with the expectation to flex time to meet with caregivers on opposite shifts or cover during a critical staffing need.
