Job DescriptionRESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Performs assigned duties according to applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
  • Maintains compliance to all internal/external quality, food safety and site safety policies, regulations, standards and procedures, as designated by Ovation Management Team.
  • Promotes a culture consistent with Iowa Cage Free and the Versova Feed Teams' Guiding Principles and Core Values.
  • Learns the material flows for receiving ingredients, reclaiming and grinding corn and the flow of ingredients through mixing and routing finished feed.
  • Conducts pre-/post-production inspection of facility and systems.
  • Ensures incoming ingredients are placed in the proper bin, communicates with team on incoming loads.
  • Enters loads for the day into FMM.
  • Assists the Feed Mill Manager in ensuring that a sufficient amount of ingredients is in inventory to complete the required amount of tonnage.
  • Monitors batching system to ensure efficient operation and correct load routing.
  • Ensures that ingredient loads are entered properly into the receiving system.
  • Ensures that receiving pit and surrounding area are clean.
  • Assist with cleaning or attending corn bin sweeping during certain times of the year in preparation for the new harvest.
  • Assists in ensuring that all outside carriers observe the policies of the feed mill alerting the Feed Mill Manager or designee, if needed.
  • Ensure materials meet standards and are received into the proper location.
  • Ensures that work area(s) are kept clean.
  • Completes required paperwork.
  • Performs preventative maintenance per defined interval/schedule in a timely manner and documents maintenance concerns providing action plans and status reports as needed.
  • Recognizes and corrects potential equipment failure or unsafe conditions and communicates this to the Feed Mill Manager.
  • Utilizes appropriate PPE including, but not limited to safety glasses, face shields, hearing protection, safety shoes, gloves and aprons and the ability to pass a pulmonary function test.
  • Maintains compliance to all internal/external feed safety and site safety policies, regulations, standards and procedures, as designated by Ovation Management Team.
  • Follows housekeeping schedules daily to maintain the facility and surrounding grounds.
  • Assists with any special housekeeping or maintenance projects that may arise.
  • Safely and accurately delivers finished feed to layer and pullet finished feed bins from the feed mill.
  • Ensures that the correct feed is placed in the correct house at the appropriate time.
  • Collects, inspects and bags samples of each load delivered.
  • Assures trailer is empty and clean after each delivery.
  • Protects feed from contamination during loading, transport and delivery.
  • Performs pre-trip inspections and ensures that transportation equipment is in satisfactory condition.
  • Other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • Be knowledgeable of company policies and practices.
  • Good attendance and a strong work ethic. Must be dependable and able to be flexible on hours.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Able to use a computer with current Windows operating system, proficient in Word, Excel and able to learn Windows-based programs
  • Understand, practice and enforce safe work practices related to the following: respiratory protection, elevated work platforms, fall protection, control of hazardous energy (lockout/tagout procedure), fire protection systems, electrical safety, forklift/hoist operation, confined space entry, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and employee Right to Know.
  • Ability to safely complete the physical tasks associated with the essential job functions such as but not limited to
    • Bending and stooping to perform maintenance procedures.
    • Able to lift up to 55 lbs. repeatedly.
    • Able to climb ladders and work at heights up to 200ft.
    • Able to work in confined spaces.
    • Able to pass a PFT examination for respirator use.
  • Able to work efficiently independently and as a member of a team.
