Performs semi-skilled work in construction, maintenance and repair of water and sewer utility lines and taps. Other duties as assigned. Applicants must possess the ability to perform heavy manual work for an extended period of time outdoors in varying climatic conditions; ability to operate a manual transmission vehicle, dewatering pump, tamp and various hand tools; ability to communicate using oral and written skills; prefer applicants who have experience performing related work in Water & Sewer Construction. Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, minimum age of 18 and a valid NC Class C driver's license.

Major Duties
Conducts traffic control at jobsites; operates crew vehicle.
Installs water and sewer taps, services, and mains.
Assists with loading the dump truck.
Locates underground utilities.
Assists in the repair of water main breaks.
Assists in the installation and repair of water meters, hydrants, valve boxes, water valves, mains, and manholes.
Performs jetting functions to clean lines.
Performs building maintenance duties.
Patches utility road cuts.
After-hours work is required during emergencies, inclement weather and other times as necessary.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Qualifications
Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations at a level commonly associated with the completion of high school or equivalent.
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of construction equipment.
Knowledge of relevant safety procedures and guidelines.
Skill in the installation, repair, and maintenance of a water distribution system.

The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift, push, pull and/or move more than 100 pounds. An employee in this position will have successfully passed a Functional Prework Screen administered by a professional and impartial third party specialist.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work is typically performed outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee may be exposed to noise, dust, dirt, grease, machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, and irritating chemicals. The work may require the use of protective devices.
